Everything conspires in favor of

Villa Crespo: it has the charisma of the old neighborhoods, a creative ebullience like Palermo lived years ago and properties with much friendlier prices than other established gastronomic centers.

The figures show the boom that the area is experiencing: according to data from Commune 15,

between 2020 and 2021 53 permits were issued to enable bars and restaurants in the neighborhood

.

The annual average is double the average of the five years prior to the pandemic.

The shock wave

is

even

revitalizing a border sector and until recently postponed between this neighborhood and Chacarita

, the triangle formed by Humboldt, Córdoba and Dorrego.

In 2020, a gastronomic hit like Naranjo bar (Carranza 1059) was installed there.

Also

Vecindá fuego

(Castillo 1502) that stands out for its clay-baked empanadas and

Condarco

has just landed

(Dorrego 901).

How do you explain the boom in the midst of such a challenging time for gastronomy?

For many, the pandemic was an opportunity to find strategic locations.

This is the case of Usina Cafetera, which landed on the corner of Corrientes and Gurruchaga in May:

"At another time it would have cost much more to get it, in terms of availability and cost,"

acknowledges Emiliano Escudero, one of the owners of this chain of coffee shops in specialty who also highlights his affinity with the style of the neighborhood.

For most of the entrepreneurs consulted, this last factor was also decisive: “The traditional coexists with the new.

Everything is done with great care, care and respect.

Without detracting from Palermo where everything is already more depersonalized, it seems to me that the neighborhood is not lost here despite the young push

”, reflects Juan Pablo Gorbán, who is about to open El Chiri de Villa Kreplaj.

Among the novelties, the latest gastronomic trends are present

: specialty coffees, veggie or Napoletano-style pizzas, sourdough-based baked goods, among other fashionable products, are part of the latest Villa Crespo proposals.

New restaurants, bars and cafes in Villa Crespo

1. Chuí

Chuí's dishes.

A lush and large garden welcomes this ideal space for the pandemic context.

Where before there was a huge warehouse full of plates, today is this

bucolic space with capacity for about a hundred people

between outdoor and indoor tables.

The kitchen is run by Vicky de Gennaro (ex Proper).

Burnt llanero cheese and mushroom pate are emblematic dishes.

The pizzas, the most requested of this place that became a success of the call.

They do not work with reservations.

Friday and Saturday, you have to go around 7pm to get a place.

During the week, there is not so much waiting and there are also guests like Bobby Flores who play music.

Loyola 1250. Open Tuesday from 5 to 1, Wednesday from 12 to 1, Thursday to Saturday from 12 to 2 and Sundays from 12 to 17 hours.

2. CANCHA pizza

CANCHA pizza does not have a living room.

This "pizza kiosk" - as its owners define it - does not have a living room.

It is enough to pass through this corner of Villa Crespo to see

dozens of people standing on the sidewalk eating some of their favorite varieties in the Napoletano style

of

sourdough

.

These pizzas are slow fermentation (they take two days of work) so they are finished when the stock of 120 buns that they make per day runs out.

The gírgolas has tomato sauce, Sardinian cheese, fior de latte, cherry tomatoes, red onion pickles, coriander, chives and lime zest.

The

kimchi

is one of the most original

: cabbage fermented according to Korean tradition, Sardinian cheese and fior de latte.

There is a vegan option.

3. Mercat Villa Crespo

The best news that the foodies who live and frequent the neighborhood had in the pandemic was the opening of this three-story gastronomic market with

27 different proposals to eat on the spot or take home.

El Mercat is the opportunity to experience many flavors in one place.

The traditional Jewish breads at Moisha Bakery, the veggie burritos at Let it V, and the chocolates at Las Romeas are among the highlights.

In the short term, two new stores will be added

:

a

slow-fermenting

pizzeria

with seasonal products

and a fish market,

Tinos, which will offer 30 different spices to take away and sushi and oysters, among other products to consume in the Mercat.

Thames 747. Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 11am to 8pm.

Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight.

4. F5 Cantina

On the corner where the La Mamma Rosa still life was for more than 30 years, this place where two brands coexist opened its doors.

By day it functions as the fifth branch of Atelier Fuerza

, the organic sourdough bread bakery created by Francisco Seubert.

At night and also on Sundays, Romero Sieiro revives the original spirit of the place with his canteen.

F5 Cantina, two brands, one place.

Atelier Fuerza

focuses on specialty coffee, imprints its identity on the lunches of the day (exuberant pascualinas and dry aged hamburgers, among others) and sells

bread and bills to go

.

The canteen bets on the classics with quality raw materials

: traditional pasta, minutes and grill.

Jufré and Julián Alvarez.

Atelier Fuerza is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. La Cantina from Tuesday to Saturday from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. and Sundays from 12 a.m. to 5 p.m.

5. Coffee plant

In May, this two-story store opened on one of the busiest corners of the neighborhood.

The firm - which already has six branches between the City and San Isidro -

bets on specialty coffee of various origins

.

In addition to espresso machines, they use four different filtering methods

(Chemex, French press, Aeropress, and V60).

The pastry shop at Usina Cafeteria.

It has very good pastry

: the hit is the Carrot Cake (superb height and flavor).

Also, varieties of scones, puddings and waffles.

For lunch, they offer pasta and veal ragout, among other specialties

.

Also, burgers, sandwiches, bagels, croque monsieur, croque madame and omelettes, among

other more express dishes.

Av. Corrientes 5501, Monday to Sunday from 8.30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

6. Ink House

Culture and gastronomy come together in this new space where you can breathe a playful spirit.

It has a library of independent publishers and a recording studio.

An exquisite corpse (a pun on words) circulates around the restaurant tables, in which diners participate while listening to good music.

The kitchen of Casa Tinta.

The kitchen is a reinvention of international classics.

 Twice a week, there are

step dinners with strict reservation.

In the afternoons, pastry recreations -like their cheesecake with toffee sauce- invite you to borrow a book and let yourself be carried away by the pleasures that inspired its owners to open this place:

good food and good reading.

Remedios de Escalada de San Martín 631. Open Thursdays and Fridays from 16 to 23. Saturdays and Sundays from 11 to 20. IG: @ casa.tinta

7. Flama bakery

This bakery and pastry shop opened four months ago.

Puff pastry is the specialty of the house.

Croissant, palmeritas, salty rolls, croissants, alfajores and cakes based on organic flour and sugar are the heart of the proposal that is still in full development.

Puff pastry, Flama Bakery's specialty.

Nommi brewbar's baristas are in charge of the

coffee

, which in this case is

Colombian and is filtered

(that is, lighter than an espresso and with more possibility to appreciate the complexities of its flavors and aromas).

They also have other drinks like matcha latte, golden milk, and chai latte,

all with plant-based milks.

Velasco 465. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6.30pm.

8. Erase coffee

This weekend, on the corner where there used to be a burger joint, a specialty cafe opens with a renewed atmosphere.

For now they will only offer espressos of Colombian origin but

in the medium term they will incorporate filtered coffees and also some cold ones.

On the menu there will also be

infusions and "homemade" drinks.

Borra Caffe's espresso.

The pastry shop, an obligatory pairing of this type of proposal, will be artisanal

and will be made on the day without a fixed menu of options.

The New York Cheesecake promises to be one of the hits of the house.

At noon they will offer lunches

: wraps, salads, sandwiches and also brunch-style options such as the always instagrameable avocado toast.

Lerma 600, open from Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

9. The Chiri of Villa Kreplaj

"Jewish canchera food"

, this is how Juan Pablo Gorbán defines his brand new proposal that opens in ten days.

From a space of 28 square meters (which will return with a renewed concept in the short term), it will move to this much more spacious and

set like the house of a "bobe".

The Chiri of Villa Kreplaj: gefilte fish, pastrami and much more.

Among the "moishadas" as their creator tells them, the pastrami and the gefilte fish will be the stars.

But

there will also be "heretical" dishes such

as the barbecued pork butt.

In addition, it will function as a warehouse and delicatessen

.

In Acevedo and Velasco.

Estimated opening: September 20.

Open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 11pm.

Tuesdays and Sundays until 6:00 p.m.
