Entering September, British secondary schools and universities have begun accepting applications from students for the next year.

If you want to get your favorite middle school or university degree, of course you have to do your homework!

The United Kingdom is a popular country for Hong Kong students to study. From school selection, registration to visa application, every step requires a long time to prepare. The following tips for applying for British universities and secondary schools are definitely worthy of reference.

1) British universities: pay attention to application requirements

British universities uniformly adopt UCAS (United Kingdom University Admissions System) to recruit students. UCAS for 2022 will start accepting applications on September 7.

If you are interested in applying for medical studies, you should apply as early as possible. The deadline for application will be earlier than that of other disciplines, usually on or before October 15th of the previous academic year.

The British bachelor's degree program is usually a three-year system, which is one year earlier than the University of Hong Kong, but in Scotland it is a four-year system.

As for some professional disciplines such as medicine, pharmacy and architecture, the bachelor's degree courses range from 4 to 6 years.

University courses are diversified, offering far more subject choices than Hong Kong, such as chiropractors, aircraft engineering, disaster management, museology, and veterinary courses. The degree is relatively abundant, and students are more likely to be admitted to their favorite courses.

Hong Kong students can apply to UK universities based on their DSE results. Admission requirements depend on individual university rankings and subject quotas.

Generally speaking, students must obtain three subjects from 554 to 444 in DSE scores, and 5*55 is required for some specialist subjects.

In addition, the university will require students to have a certain level of English, such as obtaining a minimum score of 6.0 in the IELTS international English proficiency test.

If the scores do not meet the entry requirements, you can apply for the University Preparatory Course (Foundation), University Diploma (Diploma) or International Year 1 (International Year 1), and strive for a degree program in the future.

2) British secondary schools: choose school types carefully

British secondary schools are divided into two categories: traditional boarding schools and preparatory colleges. When choosing a school, you should consider whether it is suitable for you.

The preparatory college places more emphasis on academic performance and has extremely high requirements for students' self-discipline, and may even need to stay in class or transfer school to create a very high A* to A score ratio data, thereby improving school rankings.

Although the academic performance of boarding schools may not be as good as those of preparatory colleges, it emphasizes the diversified development of students, provides different types of extracurricular activities, and enrolls more students; coupled with a long history, the performance data is relatively accurate and credible.

The following are three popular secondary schools in recent years for parents' reference:
