With a brief inquiry, a ZDF children's reporter exposed AfD national spokesman Tino Chrupalla in an interview.
In the conversation, the politician demanded that »more German folk songs be taught again, that German poems be learned«.
The "German poets and thinkers" should be honored more in schools.
But when asked what his favorite German poem was, Chrupalla had no answer.
"My favorite poem is ... uh ..." says the AfD boss.
"I'd have to think about it now, I can't think of any."
The whole interview can be found on Youtube, the request for the poems from minute 1:25.
In the run-up to the federal election, children's reporters from the ZDF Children's News logo interviewed top politicians from all major parties.
For the AfD, Chrupalla answered questions from reporter Alexander.
In the interview, he seems genuinely surprised that Chrupalla cannot name a poem.
"Maybe your favorite poet?" Asks the child reporter further.
"Heinrich Heine," says Chrupalla.
The politician also reveals gaps in knowledge when it comes to questions about youth language, such as what the word "cringe" means, which is a common term used in social media to describe being ashamed of others.
