Colombian writer and journalist Antonio Caballero dies

The Colombian writer and journalist Antonio Caballero died this Friday at the age of 75, according to Los Danieles, the portal where he made his latest publications.

For decades, Caballero worked for various Colombian media such as El Espectador, Semana and, recently, Los Danieles.

He was also a cartoonist and wrote several books, including "Without a remedy" and "History of Colombia and its oligarchies."

In 1999 he received the Planeta Prize for Journalism for his professional career.

Caballero's death generated numerous reactions in Colombian politics and culture.

"I express my condolences to the family and friends of the writer and journalist Antonio Caballero for his death," wrote Iván Duque, president of Colombia, on Twitter.

"Colombia loses an outstanding man of letters," he added.

“I am sorry for the death of Antonio Caballero, he was my critic, but I always respected him and considered him as a progressive.

RIP ”, wrote Senator Gustavo Petro on his social networks.

“Relentless with power, as every good journalist should be, and an excellent pen.

His acid and intelligent criticism will be necessary for our democracy, ”tweeted former President Juan Manuel Santos.

Caballero died in Bogotá, according to local media reports.
