The Gleißental tunnel will probably be closed until the end of next year, as construction work for the renovation and widening of the Sauerlacher Straße, parallel to the railroad tracks, has now begun.

Oberhaching

- It was not until the spring of this year that the tunnel was reopened after a construction period of almost two years, during which the Deutsche Bahn completely refurbished the 150-year-old structure.

At the moment, however, the access to the construction site for Sauerlacher Straße is being built at the southern end of the tunnel, as the tunnel has to be lengthened for the embankment that is necessary to renew the road along the railway.

This was also built around 150 years ago by the railroad as a farm road for train traffic and over time has developed into a local road, which now has to be adapted to today's requirements.

Pedestrian walkway and cycle lane

In the end, a resilient road is to be created on which two-way traffic is possible, which is important, among other things, for public transport that wants to use buses on this route.

In addition, a pedestrian path and a cycle lane are being built, which should offer all road users more safety.

Sauerlacher Strasse will remain open to traffic until the start of the next construction period in spring 2022.

The road will then be completely closed in order to widen the dam and for the water supply and road construction works.

The construction work should be completed by the end of next year.
