It turns out that investing in visibility is indeed worthwhile.
According to a new report by economist Eva Seirminska, it has been found that handsome men make more money when men have a relative advantage in it. "Less attractive people just have to work harder for the same pay," the researcher wrote.
It also turns out that employers prefer handsome-looking workers, and get handsome men and women to work at a higher probability.
Also, a handsome appearance raises the probability of being accepted for jobs that include business meetings or customer relationships.
According to the researcher's report, "Managers very much prefer to get handsome women and men for jobs that require contact with clients and business partners, and this is because clients like to see beautiful people, and so they are more open."
The report further states that "an examination of the profits of companies, shows that beautiful people do indeed increase the profits of the company substantially more than the wages they receive, so that in fact they justify their wages."
Handsome men enjoy more than handsome women
According to the report, beautiful women will have to work harder to take advantage of their beauty, and at the beginning of their journey will receive a reduced salary from handsome men, despite their beauty. Only after they are promoted in their position will their beauty help them get a higher salary.
In fact, the gap is so significant that the economist suggests that job interviews be done in writing and be anonymous, in order to allow people who are less beautiful but no less talented - an equal opportunity.
