Space created for all daycare children in Peiting

The holidays have been used well in Peiting: two classrooms in the Alfons-Peter-Grundschule were converted into day nurseries, and a movement room in the Therese-Peter-Kinderhaus as a kindergarten group.

It was not foreseeable that demand would increase so much, but all daycare children have a place, says the community.

Peiting

- too few places in kindergarten, too few staff - there is hardly a place that does not have such problems.

In Peiting, too, there was worrying news this year: “A plan B is needed: Peiting is lacking despite the addition of crèche places”, was the headline of the Schongauer Nachrichten in January.

A lot has happened since then, staff have been hired, projects such as the new kindergarten on Jägerstrasse, which will solve many worries from autumn 2022, have been launched.

But what about the new, current kindergarten year 2021/2022?

It was not foreseeable that the demand would increase so rapidly

Even if not all the schedules have worked out completely: In Peiting, all challenges have been overcome and the demand for seats has been met, explains town hall chief Peter Ostenrieder.

This was certainly not an easy task: It has been apparent for years that significantly more children are registered in the day nurseries than expected - hence the addition of the fourth day nursery group in the Therese-Peter-Haus for children.

"The fact that this demand would increase so rapidly, however, was not really foreseeable and was probably also fueled by the daycare allowance that the Free State of Bavaria has been paying parents to support since January 2020," the mayor said.

Two classrooms remodeled in the Alfons-Peter-Elementary School

For the new kindergarten year, two classrooms of the Alfons-Peter-Grundschule were converted during the holidays - with a separate entrance and completely separated from regular school operations. “We had this situation before in 2012, before the crib building was built,” Ostenrieder remembers. And has numbers ready: in total, Markt Peiting will look after almost 60 children in its crèche, 17 of which will not be registered until October 1st. The classrooms had previously been used for the open all-day school at the Alfons-Peter-Grundschule. This open all-day school will get a new building for the new school year, which is expected to be available at the end of September.

The construction should have been finished at the beginning of September, but there were delivery bottlenecks.

Since the all-day school does not start on the first day of school, but rather with a slight delay, this is still “a precision landing”, according to Ostenrieder.

A date for the blessing of the new building is scheduled for Tuesday, September 28th.

A movement room in the Therese-Peter-Haus has been converted

There was also “a massive increase in the number of over-three-year-olds who want to attend kindergarten this year.

In Peiting, too, there are a number of children who could already go to school but stay in kindergarten for another year, so-called corridor children.

“In particular because of the situation with alternating lessons or homeschooling, many parents have decided to resort to this option,” Ostrieder estimates.

In purely mathematical terms, there was an increase of over an entire kindergarten group.

A quick solution was sought and found in the market town: Also during the holidays, an exercise room in the Therese-Peter-Haus was converted into an additional kindergarten group for children and can now be used accordingly.

In June, Markt Peiting advertised eight additional positions for kindergarten teachers in order to meet the increased space requirements in the kindergarten and crèche area.

"We were able to tick the box, luckily we were able to fill all positions," said Ostenrieder.

All positions filled - but one has become vacant again at short notice

In addition, an additional position for housekeeping in the Therese-Peter-Haus for children has been created and has also been filled. "It's not that easy at the moment to fill so many childcare positions, so we are very happy about this," summarizes the town hall chief, revealing that one could spontaneously need another educator - is a position vacated because of moving.

In the community kindergartens and crèches (Rathauskindergarten, Therese-Peter-Haus für Kinder, Birkland), a total of 204 children will be looked after in the new year; , in the Kinderhaus Untereggstraße, in the St. Michael Kindergarten and in the Kindergarten am Weiherhäusl care for a total of 246 children. There are also 28 school children in after-school care. All in all, according to the current status, a total of 478 children will attend the Peitinger day nurseries, kindergartens and daycare centers from the new year 2021/2022.
