The believers were amazed when they attended the service in “Maria Königin” on Sunday.
The unannounced celebrant was Reinhard Cardinal Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising.
Only a few initiates had found out about the visit in advance, and they deliberately did not want to hang the event on the big bell to avoid crowds.
And so Marx's visit was actually a big surprise for the worshipers in the nonetheless well-filled church, because they had actually expected Klingan alone, who currently stands in as a holiday replacement in his home parish from time to time.
In his sermon, the cardinal spanned the range from the current federal election campaign to the renewal of the church.
Cardinal Marx visits Baldham: After church there is a chat
After the service, he was emphatically affable: he took about half an hour to chat extensively with the worshipers in the parsonage and made the impression that he enjoyed this contact very much.
He had the acolytes tell him about their pilgrimage to Rome and he posed with a boy for a photo that he wanted to give to his grandparents on their wedding day.
That will definitely be another successful surprise.
