At least 14 people were killed and three others were injured in a lightning strike that struck the Torgar district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which has been witnessing since last Wednesday heavy monsoon rains and landslides.
At least 14 people from one family were killed after lightning struck two nearby houses, provincial spokesman Kamran Bangash told AFP, noting that among the dead were five children and four women, while the provincial government's office confirmed the toll.
In November 2019, 18 people were killed in a lightning strike in the remote and desert region (Thar) in southern Pakistan.
The monsoon rains, which last from June to September, are necessary to irrigate crops and secure water reserves in the Indian subcontinent, but every year heavy rains cause casualties and severe damage.
