Theater actor Alon Dahan passed away last night from cancer at the age of 49. Dahan left behind a wife and three children, including an 11-year-old autistic son.
Dahan studied at the Beit Zvi School of the Arts and later acted in the Repertory Theater. He has performed at the Habima Theater, the Beit Lessin Theater and the Library Theater, and in recent years has been a regular actor at the Cameri Theater. Among the plays in which he played: "As You Like It," "Hamlet," "Antigone," "Mother Courage," "A Streetcar Named Desire" and more. He has also starred in films and series such as "Sun", "Pajamas", "Sima Vaknin Witch", "Zinzana", "Big Story", "The Heiress" and more. The last show he played was "Cage Genius," in which he played autistic. In interviews he said he took inspiration for the role from his son.
About four months ago, the Haaretz newspaper published an investigation by Tamar Kaplansky on Dahan, including evidence of sexual harassment.
Following the interrogation, Dahan announced that he was taking a time-out from the theater.
The Cameri Theater reported: "Actor Alon Dahan passed away tonight. Dahan has played countless roles in the theater and the Cameri is in pain for his untimely passing."
Actor Dvir Bendek, one of Dahan's best friends, said: "Alon was a good friend, one of the people you trust right away. He had an extraordinary kindness, he had a passion for theater like I do not know in anyone else. He was a wonderful father to my age, "Aya and Uri, who will have a very hard time without him, especially Uri who is on the autism spectrum and will have a complex confrontation. We are sad. We will miss him forever."
Habima CEO Noam Semel knew Dahan from the time he served as Cameri CEO. "He was absorbed in the chamber and became one of the band's regular players," says Semel. "He was a very versatile actor, who fitted in great in both dramas and comedies."
