The Buenos Aires Minister of Health.

Fernán Quirós, confirmed this Sunday the

three cases of the Delta variant

in the ORT School of Belgrano that had been tested for a coronavirus outbreak at the school.

"Regarding the epidemiological picture, we have had in the educational community a number of people with positive PCR, three of them with Delta variant," said the official.

Quirós

also confirmed that they are boys from primary school

and remarked that they are already "talking with the family" and "working with school authorities to implement the measures."

In addition, he announced that "throughout today we are waiting for other PCRs in the Malbran and Children's Hospital" Ricardo Gutiérrez.

The text released by Malbran this Saturday indicates that "in the face of journalistic versions of a possible COVID-19 outbreak in a school in the City of Buenos Aires, the PAIS Consortium and the Malbrán Institute report that they have been notified at the moment, to the System National Health Surveillance, three confirmed cases of Delta variant ".

The study

was carried out in the Virology laboratory of the Ricardo Gutiérrez Children's Hospital

, central node of the PAIS Consortium, financed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and the isolates correspond to three minors, two of 7 years and one of 9.

Other samples belonging to this outbreak will be analyzed by the ANLIS-Malbrán national reference laboratory.

The confirmation of the Delta variant was carried out based on the partial sequencing of the Spike protein and the constellation of mutations associated with the Delta variant was analyzed, confirming the presence of these mutations in all the samples.

In addition, a silent mutation (2049G> A) that is shared by all cases was detected and would be an indication that they share a common origin.

Currently, the sequencing of the complete genomes is in process, to carry out the evolutionary studies that will allow to confirm if all the cases belong to the same outbreak, sources of the investigation told Télam.

The health teams of the City of Buenos Aires carry out the epidemiological investigation to determine the transmission chains and the pertinent outbreak controls.

43 students and a teacher infected

In addition to the group of 43 infected students, the school also informed parents that a Physical Education teacher, who teaches at the primary and secondary levels, was also confirmed with coronavirus and this will force the isolation of an unspecified number of students from both levels starting next week.

The authorities of the ORT School, based in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Belgrano, reported this Friday that 43 positive cases of coronavirus were detected in the establishment, for which several bubbles were isolated from the student body.

"Dear families: We are getting in touch to inform you that 43 positive cases of coronavirus have been detected among our students at the Belgrano campus -primary level-, whose bubbles have been isolated from the confirmation of the results," the authorities reported to the parents of the establishment through an email of general circulation.
