The artist Christo had dreamed of it.

He and his wife, Jeanne-Claude, had already packed the Pont-Neuf in Paris in 1985.

Without one or the other, both deceased, it is their nephew, Vladimir Yavachev, who now takes care of fulfilling their sweet fantasy: packing the Arc de Triomphe.

After several weeks of preparatory work, the installation entered the home stretch this Sunday… giving passers-by a magnificent spectacle.

2. The work will last several more days, until the inauguration of the work next Saturday.

It is expected that operations will take place day and night.

It takes no less than 25,000 m2 of fabric to cover the entire monument, to which must be added the 3,000 m of red rope to make it a real gift package.

4. Christo and Jeanne-Claude had this project to wrap the monument since… 1962!

The packaging of the Arc de Triomphe "will be like a living object which will come alive in the wind and reflect the light", explained Christo while presenting his final project, two years before his death.

5. The project will cost 14 million euros, but it is entirely self-financed, without any public subsidy, thanks to the sale of original works by Christo, preparatory drawings, souvenirs, models and lithographs.

6. Parisians and tourists will be able to benefit from the new facelift of the Arc de Triomphe until October 3.

The huge roundabout that is Place de l'Etoile will be returned to pedestrians every weekend, over the period, from September 18, to allow them to take advantage of it.
