An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 was registered early this Monday, local time, in the border area between Argentina and Chile, according to a report from the United States Seismological Service (USGS, for its acronym) in English).

The USGS said the earthquake struck at 2:18 a.m. local time (1:18 a.m. Miami time), and was located 79 kilometers west northwest of San Antonio de los Cobres, Argentina, with a depth of 193 , 4 kilometers.

Meanwhile, the National Office for Emergency Management of Chile (Onemi), said on Twitter that the earthquake was of magnitude 6.1 and was located 52 kilometers southeast of Socaire, in the Chilean region of Antofagasta.

He added that the earthquake does not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami on the coasts.

At the moment no victims or damages are reported.
