The bridge at the north station in Peiting has always been an annoying bottleneck, but the municipality of Peiting wanted to keep the route.

Now that up to a quarter of a million euros could be due for the 200 meters, the local council will reconsider it on Tuesday.

Schongau -

"Footpath from Peiting north station to Eiselenweg: termination of planning / implementation, termination of the lease agreement with DB Netz AG with regard to the path and pedestrian enclosure on the railway property": This is an item on the agenda of the next public meeting of the market town council tomorrow, Tuesday.

And behind it is a small explosive device.

As Mayor Peter Ostenrieder explained last Friday at the request of the Schongauer Nachrichten, the municipality of Peiting now has to act.

"We will say goodbye to the path," he declared very clearly.

That has already been agreed with all political groups, but still needs a public resolution.

Two years ago the cost estimate was significantly lower

Why is?

Two years ago it was agreed that they wanted to keep the 200-meter-long footpath at the Nordbahnhof to Eiselenweg - even if it doesn't actually deserve the name path.

Because even after production by the market town, this would be narrow and anything but barrier-free.

You've always had a stomach ache, because the community may pay, but the reason still belongs to Deutsche Bahn.

“Nevertheless, the community decided that it was worth it to us,” said Ostenrieder.

In November 2020, according to the mayor's description, an amount between 90,000 and 100,000 euros was available for the measure.

The situation now looks completely different

In the meantime, the situation looks completely different: In June, the expansion of the two railway stations in the east and north began as planned.

As Ostenrieder said when asked about the agenda item of the meeting, there had apparently been a soil sampling in August.

It turned out that the soil at the railway embankment is heavily polluted and that the path rehabilitation would have to be excavated much deeper than previously assumed - which of course also makes the construction work much more expensive.

The journey should cost up to a quarter of a million euros

According to Ostenrieders description, up to a quarter of a million euros could be incurred.

The municipality has checked again whether there is another, cheaper option, but that also fails for Ostenrieder at first glance: The path may not be asphalted, but no water should penetrate into the ground.

The mayor fears that the strong compaction would not guarantee the drainage of surface water, so that the citizen either wades in the water on the unpaved path when it rains or, in the worst case, slides along an ice rink in winter.

Costs for the market community for this somewhat slimmed-down solution: around 200,000 euros.

Agreed with the parliamentary groups despite vacation time

"Despite the vacation time, we have come to an understanding with the parliamentary groups and we are all of the opinion: We are withdrawing," said Ostenrieder, summing it up.

And it becomes even clearer: "It would be a waste of taxpayers' money to spend so much money on an improved beaten path." The local council must vote on Tuesday to stop further planning and terminate the lease with the railway for the footpath.

It is now to be discussed whether it is better not to put the money in a different way: "It is better to take a detour via the Gumpen, but then it is a sensible community-owned path."

Meeting dates:

The market town council of Peiting meets tomorrow, Tuesday, September 14th, from 7 p.m. in the Schloßberghalle in Peiting.

In addition to the footpath at Peiting North Station, there are other items on the agenda.

For example, Marcus Graf will be a guest and present the Pfaffenwinkel music school.

Before that, a public building committee meeting will take place from 6.30 p.m. at the same location.
