The "Bird's Head" section in the south of the Yarkon Park in Tel Aviv endangers pedestrians and cyclists, according to the park's struggle headquarters.

According to them, the reason for this is the replacement of bicycle lane locations with pedestrian lanes, a decision made by the Ayalon Lanes company, which is responsible for them.

"The riders' field of vision has narrowed, creating dangerous friction with the walking lanes," the struggle headquarters said.

Both sides agree on one thing - the "Upnidan" project, which will eventually include 100 km of bicycle paths in Gush Dan from Rishon Lezion to Herzliya, is a big line for cyclists and strengthens the sequence of traffic between Gush Dan cities by bicycle. But in one section of it , A gap is revealed between the users of the trail who set up a joint struggle headquarters for runners and riders, and the company that is responsible for its planning and execution - the "Ayalon Lanes" company.

The disputed area is in an area known as "Bird's Head" in the south of the park, where the northeastern part of the Dan Bicycle route passes near Ramat Gan.

Its proximity to the cities and the Yarkon Park, and its perimeter structure, made it a very popular site among runners and riders in the park.

The reason why the area is controversial is that as part of the paving of the section, the riding lanes and those of the pedestrians were replaced, so that today the pedestrian lane is in the outer part near the river while the bike path is in the inner part - as a result, the struggle headquarters say: "Significantly reduced the riders' field of vision and created dangerous friction with the walking paths, which is reflected in the turns."

In addition, the struggle headquarters warns "the incarceration of cyclists in the inner lane endangers the safety of pedestrians in the outer lane, in case of uncontrolled deviation from their lane. The safety range between cyclists and pedestrians has also been significantly reduced, as well as the ability to respond to accident prevention."

In recent months, as the work has progressed, there have been several meetings of the same organization of riders and runners with the executive company - "Ayalon Lanes" - to find solutions to the problem as they see it. One of them was to turn the same circumferential ring into a kind of square, where the movement of bicycles and pedestrians is in the same direction and thus reduce the chance of a frontal encounter. But to the surprise of the park users, they discovered a few days ago that the company had established facts in the field and began to mark the route of the problematic path to their perception.

"We all understand that the safety of visitors to the park is more important than running or walking on the path closer to the river. We hope the park management will understand this soon," said the director of the struggle headquarters, Idan Bar. "The new bike path is a welcome project, .

Bar added that "we have a hard time believing that the management of the Yarkon Park does not see that this is a real safety hazard. This is a planning mistake that exposes thousands of runners and cyclists to accidents. "During the day, they promised to consider returning the riders to the outer track. Unfortunately, to this day, we have not heard from them."

Netivei Ayalon stated: "All the claims of the group of riders in the bicycle path section at Rosh Tzipor in Hayarkon Park, carried out by the park management and Netivei Ayalon, were examined by a certified safety inspector, and therefore a temporary marking was made in the section."

According to them, "In recent days, the opinion of the safety reviewer was received, stating that the triangles of visibility (dead areas) are normal for the speed limit on the trail, and increasing them will encourage driving above the speed limit, which could endanger other Yarkon Park users and families." It is up to 30 km / h only.

In the near future, a permanent mark will be made in favor of completing the section. "
