North Korea has tested new long-range cruise missiles, the official media in the communist country reported Monday. Experts estimate that it may be the first nuclear-capable cruise missile in its possession. The official news agency reported that the missiles are "strategic weapon of great importance", they flew a distance of 1,500 km before they hit their targets and landed in the territorial waters of the country. Launches were held yesterday and on Saturday.

Launches latest emphasize the steady progress that makes Pyongyang developing nuclear and missile programs Its, while talks with the United States have been stalled since 2019.

North Korean cruise missiles generally attract less attention than its ballistic missiles because they are not explicitly banned under UN Security Council sanctions. But leader Kim Jong Un said earlier this year that developing small bombs is a top goal.

The two Koreans are conducting an arms race that is causing concern among experts against flooding the area with new powerful missiles.

The South Korean military has not revealed whether it has identified recent North launches, but noted today that it will conduct a comprehensive investigation in cooperation with the United States.

The Indian-Pacific Command in the United States military has said it is aware of the reports and that it is coordinating with its allies and partners.

"This activity underscores the continued focus on the development of the nuclear program and the threats posed to its neighbors and the international community," the command said in a statement.
