Germering - An accident with a life-threatening outcome for a cyclist occurred on Monday evening in Germering near Bundesstraße 2.

At an intersection, the 50-year-old was hit head-on by a 36-year-old man's car.

Despite his bicycle helmet, the cyclist suffered severe head injuries, as the Germering police station announced.

According to the information, the fatal collision occurred shortly after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Aubinger Weg and Walkürenstraße.

Evidently difficult visibility conditions were also fatal for the cyclist: a corn field blocked the line of sight between the two streets, as it was said.

The 50-year-old was hit by the car while crossing Aubinger Weg.

According to the police, the man should have given right of way.

There were no indications of the car's excessive speed.

The cyclist was taken to a Munich clinic, but even after he was brought to the clinic - as of Monday evening - a death could not be ruled out, said the Germering police station.

The car driver was not physically injured, but suffered a shock and had to be looked after on site by a crisis intervention team.

The exact circumstances of the accident have yet to be clarified.

The Munich II public prosecutor's office ordered the creation of an accident analysis report and the securing of the car and bicycle.

The police in Germering explained that more detailed information could only be expected after the report was available.

Several cyclists were also injured in accidents in the Munich district over the weekend.
