Unterallgäu - The Bad Wörishofen vaccination center will remain open beyond September 30th. That was decided on Friday. Unterallgäu - The Bad Wörishofen vaccination center will remain open beyond September 30th.

That was decided on Friday.

Previously there had been a conversation with representatives of the city of Memmingen, the district of Unterallgäu and the Maltese as operators of the vaccination centers in Memmingen and the Unterallgäu.

As the district office confirmed on Monday, the vaccination center in Bad Wörishofen should remain in operation. Previously, there had been considerations that the vaccination center should be closed and only the common vaccination center in Memmingen should remain. It is now certain that the vaccination center in Bad Wörishofen will be

offering

vaccinations three days a week

from October 1st

, albeit at

reduced opening times

. The district is thus implementing the new Bavarian vaccination strategy. This provides that in the future

, family and company doctors in particular

will

vaccinate against Covid-19. The vaccination centers should only supplement this offer and shut down operations. From October 1, the bathroom is Wörishofer vaccination center

on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

each

open

from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

District Administrator

Alex Eder

said of this decision: "We want to continue to make it as easy as possible for all citizens who want to be vaccinated." That is why the decision was made to continue operating the vaccination center until the end of the year for the time being.

The aim is to keep the distances as short as possible - even for everyone who does not have a family doctor or who would like to have the booster vaccination carried out at the vaccination center.

In addition, the Bad Wörishofer facility will in future also act as a

contact point for citizens from neighboring districts

.

Since September 1st,

Dr.

Carola Winkler

the new coordinating doctor in the Unterallgäu.

The 42-year-old from Türkheim succeeded Dr.

Max Kaplan, who resigned his post after a dispute with District Administrator Alex Eder at the end of August.

“My job is to advise politics and District Administrator Eder.

I also coordinate the vaccination campaign in the Unterallgäu district and keep in touch with various medical areas, the city of Memmingen because of the common vaccination center and the resident doctors, ”said Winkler, summarizing her tasks.

In an interview with Wochen KURIER, she showed a differentiated and reflective view of the vaccination.

This also applies to an incident with which she attracted attention a few weeks ago. At that time she was working as a vaccination doctor at the Ostallgäu vaccination center in Kaufbeuren. In front of her sat two 13-year-olds whom she refused to vaccinate. "But that had mainly to do with the fact that the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) had not yet made a vaccination recommendation for this age group," explains the coordinating doctor in Unterallgäu. Today she definitely sees the need for vaccinations for younger people as well. "We can vaccinate children aged 12 and over, but I would focus on children and adolescents with previous illnesses," said Winkler. There are good medical reasons here. That is why the vaccination center in Bad Wörishofen also offers an extra consultation hour for these people. There would be extensive advice.

This also applies to the third or so-called booster vaccination.

“We don't want to advertise it, but anyone who wants it can get it from us at the vaccination center, reports Winkler.

When the 42-year-old is not working as a coordinating doctor for the Unterallgäu, she works at the University of Augsburg.

Before that, she practiced as a Bundeswehr doctor, among other things, on missions in Afghanistan.

But now the vaccination campaign is the focus for them.

And also a completely new insight: "You are really in the focus of the public and the media", are her experiences from the first days.
