Expansion of Peitinger Straße will not come before 2023

With the expansion of the Peitinger Straße nothing will happen anytime soon.

The State Building Authority currently has no funds for the measure planned for 2022, including the improvement of UPM access and a crossing aid for cyclists.

Schongau and Peiting hope at least for the traffic lights at the Märchenwald intersection.

Schongau -

At the latest at the construction site of the Mühlkanal bridge in Schongau, it was clear that Peitinger Straße had to be tackled as well.

"It is really not in good condition, the sidewalks and cycling are not satisfactory either, so it should be approached as quickly as possible," says Stefan Scheckinger.

The head of the state building authority could not help but postpone the project to expand Peitinger Strasse during a site inspection on the state road together with representatives of the city of Schongau and the market town of Peiting.

There is simply not enough money in the pot for the construction project originally planned for 2022.

Even the new time is unclear: "The goal would be 2023, but I can't promise it."

Joint road construction project with the state building authority

Since it is a state road, a joint road construction project was planned.

Together with the city of Schongau, it is on the one hand the expansion of Peitinger Straße up to the completely renovated canal bridge.

At the same time, the access to the Schongau paper mill is to be relocated and changed - two turning lanes are planned.

There are also plans for the continuation of the cycle path from the Lech Canal Bridge - for example, a crossing aid is to come.

Together with the city of Schongau, the state building authority has already presented the project for an improved cycle and footpath at the Lech Bridge.

The State Building Authority expects around three million euros for the entire measure.

Apparently there is currently no way in the truest sense of the word.

Around 2 million euros per district per year

Scheckinger has around two million euros available per year for each district; the authority in Weilheim is responsible for five districts.

“I already had to postpone construction work this year,” says Scheckinger, describing the dilemma.

And again and again there are projects that make it to the top of the priority list, such as this year after the heavy rainfalls: A slope threatened to slide down near Schäftlarn, the road had to be secured.

“I still have no idea how much it will cost.

And there are x such places in all districts, "said Scheckinger, who regrets once again:" Peitinger Strasse is necessary, but we won't get it just next year.

We cannot do everything that is necessary immediately. "

"We want to use the time to concretize the plans"

"There are obviously roads in Bavaria in an even worse condition," commented Mayor Falk Sluyterman on the rejection of the state building authority with a hint of gallows humor. And that despite the speed limit of 30 in the wet? The measure is definitely only postponed, not canceled. One now wants to talk to the city council about which measures one might prefer. City architect Sebastian Dietrich also sees the decision as “not very dramatic”. “We would like that to be realized in a year, but we will use the time to concretise and deepen the planning.” Coordination with UPM and Deutsche Bahn would have to take place anyway, and a development plan for the Friedrich- Haindl-Straße. Otherwise everything would have to run in parallel.Dietrich even sees an advantage in the postponement and thinks of the residents: The people of Schongau were now very burdened with the construction work, there is no damage for a year is proceeded.

Loamer Stichl: traffic light next year

Even without the immediate expansion of Peitinger Straße, the city of Schongau, the market town of Peiting and the state building authority have agreed on a small measure that should bring great relief, but also safety for road users: a set of traffic lights at the intersection of Peitinger Straße and Dießener Straße. Peiting's Mayor Peter Ostenrieder thinks this is extremely important, after all, many schoolchildren travel from Peiting to Schongau. At the “Loamer Stichl”, the traffic light for traffic between Schongau and Peiting should be switched to permanent green, he reports, and the intelligent traffic light should react as soon as there are turning off from Dießener Straße. Even when cyclists come, the traffic lights should switch quickly - without long waiting times, as Ostenrieder hopes. "This is the only way for cyclistsand dangerous situations arise there again and again. "

Safe solution for the cyclists should be found

Mayor Falk Sluyterman and his Peitinger colleague had already wrested this solution from the State Building Authority in 2020 after the major discussions at the end of the construction of the Lech Canal Bridge in Schongau (we reported).

At that time, cyclists had often expressed the wish to leave the temporary replacement bridge behind the residential area on the Lech.

After weighing up the arguments, however, a decision was made against it.

It's always about creating a connection that is suitable for everyday use.

The safety of a bicycle bridge at this point was also questioned.

But the costs also played a role - the Free State would not have participated in an off-road bridge.

Stefan Scheckinger from the Weilheim State Building Authority confirmed these discussions.

The goal is the traffic light, but he cannot yet make a hundred percent determination.

They want to determine at the beginning of next year whether the traffic lights will be built.

The financial framework of the measure is rather manageable.

Meeting of the city council

The meeting of the city council on Tuesday, September 14th, begins as an exception at 6.30 p.m. in the Jakob-Pfeiffer-Haus.

Among other things, it is about the purchase of mobile air purification devices at municipal schools and daycare centers, but also about the new slide on the paddling.
