The Constitution Committee is holding a meeting this morning (Monday) on the issue of anchoring the principle of equality in the Basic Laws of the State of Israel.
The committee's chairman, MK Gilad Karib, initiated the hearing following the ruling in the National Law of the National High Court. He said:
"The committee has the authority to initiate proposals for basic laws, and I hope that we will be able to reach an agreed wording and bring it to the Knesset plenum in coordination with the government."

The Minister of Religious Affairs, Matan Kahana, said before the committee that it would not allow a violation of the constitutional status quo in Israel and the status quo in matters of religion and state: "The question is not who is in favor of equality.
