Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel sent his condolences on Twitter to de Cano Radil's family and friends, and to the Paraguayan government.

In a statement, the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged his death with regret and said that Bernardino Cano Radil "distinguished himself for his diplomatic work and his contributions to strengthening bilateral ties with Cuba."

Despite a massive vaccination campaign with its indigenous vaccines, Cuba had seen an increase in new cases and deaths from covid-19 in recent months.
