As in the 2017 legislative elections and in the 2019 elections, the First Electoral Section of Greater Buenos Aires was once again decisive in settling the fight between Peronism and Cambiemos.

Once again, in these STEP 2021 it was the electorate of

the municipalities of the North and West areas

that

tipped the balance.

With almost 73% of the polls scrutinized, in that region Juntos totaled just over 37% of the votes, while the Frente de Todos barely exceeded 33%.

A difference of 4 points that, once again, is very similar to the one that occurred throughout the Province in favor of the opposition.

While the difference that the ruling party achieved once again in the southern area of the suburbs was balanced with the victory of Together in the electoral districts of the interior of Buenos Aires, the contest ended up tilting in places like San Isidro and Vicente López, always elusive for the Peronism, but also with good performances in some of

the PJ strongholds.

In three cases, in addition, this phenomenon was directly translated into

triumphs that were unexpected.

Three surprise victories

In San Martín, which has been Peronist territory since 2011, Juntos achieved a resounding

47.5%

of the votes between its two lists for national deputy: the one headed by Diego Santilli and that of the radical Facundo Manes.

The payroll of Victoria Tolosa Paz and Daniel Gollan, meanwhile, achieved just

28%.

A difference of ten points that few could foresee.

The broad defeat of the government is a serious blow to the territory of the Minister of Public Works, Gabriel Katopodis, who in this preliminary electoral examination put his wife, Nancy Cappenolli, to the test as the first candidate for councilor.

The Minister of Public Works Gabriel Katopodis, a strong man from San Martín, with Victoria Tolosa Paz.

The other hit occurred in Tigre, although there was already a precedent, of the legislative 2017. There, the two formulas of Cambiemos now exceeded 38%, while the single list of the Frente de Todos obtained 31.9%.

In the lands of massismo, the list of councilors of the Frente de Todos was headed by Gisela Zamora, wife of the current mayor Julio Zamora.

Same formula as in San Martín, same result.

Julio Zamora, mayor of Tigre: in the territory of massismo won Together.

The Juntos opposition garnered more votes by adding the Segundo Cernadas and Nicolas Massot ballots, and obtained dividends with the sum of both.

In the internal contest, the actor and main reference of the PRO consolidated himself as an opposition leader, after the defeat he had suffered as a candidate for mayor in 2019.

The third "coup" of the First Section took place in Morón, the municipality of the West zone that between 2015 and 2019 governed the macrismo, and that later New Encuentro recovered, the strength of the current head of ACUMAR, Martín Sabbatella.

In these Primaries, Juntos recovered the lost votes and more: it reaped 41.5% between Santilli and Manes.

On the opposite sidewalk, Tolosa Paz was 11 points down.

Lucas Ghi, mayor of Morón.

There, Mayor Lucas Ghi's ruling party carried a single ballot headed by the social and feminist leader Leticia Guerrero, a member of Nuevo Encuentro and current Undersecretary of Community Relations.

Underneath there was a list with leaders of various origins, from the massismo to La Cámpora, the Truckers union and other sectors of the government alliance.

Opposite, the former macrista mayor Ramiro Tagliaferro assembled a list of councilors led by Leandro Ugartemendía, leader of the Los Matreros rugby club and former official of his municipal management.

The votes of his army were joined by those of local radicalism, with their list encircled with Manes.
