Dorfen

- Dr.

Emil Rudolf will retire at the end of September.

The doctor, who founded the MVZ in Dorfen together with his brother Ludwig Rudolf, can look back on 42 years of experience as a doctor - most of which he practiced in Dorfen.

In the future he wants to be there for his children and grandchildren, go on trips with his wife and pass on his knowledge as a lecturer.

"You have to stop before you have to stop - that's what they say in Bavarian", says Dr. Emil Rudolf (68). "Anyone who is at the forefront as a family doctor must always be up to date with the latest medical developments." Medical knowledge would double every two years, and the responsibility was enormous.

It has always been clear to Rudolf: “I want to be a family doctor.” He studied in Giessen and Erlangen, he says.

"My ideal image was the classic family doctor." That is why he has also been to many houses in the area and paid attention to a wide range of training.

“From conception to the grave” is how he understands his job description.

He often treated four generations of a family: “First the mothers who were pregnant, then their children and later the children of the children.

You build relationships there - that was a huge responsibility, but it is also a lot of fun, ”says Rudolf looking back on almost 40 years as a practicing doctor in Dorfen.

As a general practitioner, you are at the forefront, but you need to know when to refer to a specialist.

At first Rudolf was still alone in his practice. He had to be available Monday through Friday, including at night. There were also weekend shifts: “There weren't any cell phones yet, I was at home on the phone.” He knows that the requirements for doctors are great. "As a family doctor you are at the forefront, but you have to know when to refer to a specialist."

That is why he campaigned for a specialist medical organization and, together with his brother Ludwig, an internist and gastroenterologist, founded one of the first interdisciplinary practices with a general practitioner in Bavaria in Dorfen. They later brought a cardiologist into the team. In 2005 the MVZ started with Emil and Ludwig Rudolf and Walter Ruckdeschel. 52 employees now work there - doctors, administrative staff, medical specialists. "It was important to me to build up a good wide range of medical care in Dorfen." A colleague from the closed branch practice in Oberding will replace him in the future: "The head size will therefore remain the same."

He was supported by his wife Huguette, whom he met while studying in Erlangen and with whom he has been married for 41 years.

Without her he would not have been able to manage his daily quota over the years, he knows.

After the second state examination and the birth of the second child, his wife decided in favor of the classic role model and foregone a career of her own - but the Germanist also got into the practice: “I did the accounting and trained as a diabetes advisor. "Huguette Rudolf, who has French roots and grew up in Paris for the first few years, was responsible for training and therapy support:" Let's put it very clearly - the MVZ owes the establishment of the diabetes center to my wife. "

Emil Rudolf has also been President of the ESC Dorfen for 24 years

His Huguette often slowed him down, he says: "She said: 'I've booked flights, we're on vacation'." The couple explored Peru, Nepal or Egypt, was in the Himalayas and also recovered in Italy or France. The passionate photographer always brought snapshots with him: "Mostly portraits, some of them hang in the practice."

Rudolf has also been President of the ESC Dorfen for 24 years.

His father founded the club and built the stadium, which was rebuilt under his direction in 1998.

He also sat for six years in the district council, because it was important for him to stand up for his city and the district in local politics and across all parties.

When one day he was flashed to the meeting on the way to Erding because he was late from the practice, he did not run again.

"That's when I realized that I couldn't get it under one roof in terms of time."

Even now he does not want to replace “work stress with leisure stress”.

"I will enjoy the fact that my life is no longer so tightly timed." The Rechts der Isar hospital asked whether Rudolf would like to hold seminars at the university: "It is important to me to pass on my experience as a family doctor."

Dorfen - "Anyone who has ever lived here will always come back"

Of course, he remains loyal to Dorfen, even if he plans many trips with his wife.

“Anyone who has ever lived here will always come back,” says the native of Dorfen.

"The beloved nest", his wife interjects, which gives security.

A sentence that he doesn't really like, however, because Dorfen is far from any kind of isolation that would imply a nest for him: “Dorfen is open to the world.” The aim here is to preserve the homeland, but not to oversleep development.

“Munich is nearby, as are the mountains - you couldn't live more beautifully.” Three of his children also live in Dorfen, his youngest son is a specialist in general medicine at the University of Bern, but he too will soon be drawn back home .

“The children passed me by a bit,” Rudolf regrets.

He now wants to take time for the four grandchildren.

"The children, the grandchildren, are the most beautiful things in my life - and this is where my future lies," he says and looks lovingly at his wife Huguette.
