Damascus-SANA

The Film Club of the Ashtar Descendants Foundation screened the documentary “You Will Not See” at the Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh.

The film deals with the biography of the French philosopher Jean-Yves Lopetal, who came to Syria at the end of the seventies of the last century with the aim of completing his studies and ending up in love with it.

The film, which was produced by Khayal Company and directed by Ahmed Abdel Ghani Arafat, presents in a documentary style the story of Lopetal's love for Syria, which began when he was a doctoral student at the Sorbonne University in France and toured Senegal and Lebanon, eventually settling and residing in Old Damascus until today.

The film deals with the influence of the French philosopher on the culture of the region, especially Sufism, showing scenes of Lopetal reading the poems of Ibn al-Farid and Sufi poets, visiting Islamic and Christian religious places, and his close relations with his neighbors and with his students.

It is noteworthy that the French philosopher translated the collections of the Sufi poet Ibn Al-Farid into French with commentaries and prepared a book on the congruence between Sufism in the East and Europe.

As for the film club of the Ashtar Descendants Foundation, it is considered one of the cultural activities of the Foundation and aims to create a visual culture on humanitarian issues. Its activities started in 2015 and focused on showing Syrian films and opening a dialogue with their makers.
