A new school year begins today for elementary and middle school students in the district.

In numbers, that's 7,696 children and young people.

1484 of them will start their school career this year, writes the education authority in a press release.

District - “A total of 251 classes with 5673 pupils are formed at general and private primary schools, and 101 classes with 2023 pupils at secondary schools,” says Head of Education Karin Huber-Weinberger. The average class size at elementary schools is 22.4 and at middle schools 20.2. According to Huber-Weinberger, around a third of all children and adolescents have a migration background.

A special feature of the elementary and middle schools in the district is the inclusive teaching. "The implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will be implemented in the school year 2021/2022 by offering various forms of cooperative and inclusive learning in general schools," says Huber-Weinberger. In all grades of state primary and secondary schools, teachers teach individual children with different special educational needs, for example in the areas of vision, hearing and physical and motor development. Some of the children and young people are supported by school attendants. The partner classes are also part of the inclusion. At the Söcking elementary school and at the Starnberg elementary school, one class each from the Franziskus School of Lebenshilfe Starnberg is outsourced.Through joint lessons, mainly in the arts, but also through joint projects and activities, the children of the Söcking primary school are introduced to the natural and natural way of dealing with the handicapped, writes the education authority. This cooperation is planned for several years.

Although compulsory teaching at primary and secondary schools can be covered, finding a teacher was not easy.

“In the primary school sector, due to the tight staffing by specialist teachers, the craft and design lessons in grades 1 - 4 are partly given by trained primary school teachers,” says Huber-Weinberger.

However, the Starnberg Education Authority can provide representation in the event of pregnancy or illness.

Thanks to the mobile reserve budget of the government of Upper Bavaria.

A total of 56 teachers and subject teachers - full-time and part-time - are available for the temporary service.

Some of them will represent pregnant teachers or teachers who are not able to work for other reasons at the elementary and middle schools in the district from the first day of school.

Karin Huber-Weinberger is particularly pleased about an additional budget for children and young people with a migration background, which enables the establishment of preliminary courses and German support measures at schools. mm
