Germering - There was a serious traffic accident on Monday, September 13th, around 6.10 p.m. in Aubinger Weg at the intersection with Walkürenstrasse.
A 50-year-old cyclist collided with a 36-year-old car driver.
“According to initial findings,” says Police Chief Inspector Klaus Hofmeister, “the cyclist drove on Valkyrie Street and crossed Aubinger Weg.” The car driver drove on Aubinger Weg in the direction of Munich.
Cyclists and car drivers could not see each other
because both the view of the other was blocked by a high corn field, as the police continue to explain.
While crossing Aubinger Weg, the cyclist was hit head-on by the car coming from the left.
The cyclist would have had to wait because of the “give way” sign.
"The 50-year-old cyclist was injured so badly in the collision that even after he was admitted to a Munich hospital, his death cannot be ruled out," explains Hofmeister.
De man suffered serious head injuries despite his bicycle helmet.
The car driver was not physically injured, but had to be looked after on site by a crisis intervention team due to the shock he had suffered.
Accident analysts clarify the cause
The Munich II public prosecutor's office ordered an accident analysis report and the securing of the car and bicycle.
Alcoholization of the car driver could be ruled out.
There are no indications of excessive speed.
"More detailed information can probably only be expected after the report has been completed," says the police chief inspector.
