California voters will vote today (Tuesday) whether to oust Democratic Gov. Gwyn Niosem in a special election that puts the Democratic majority in the state head-on against former Republican President Donald Trump's Republican supporters. Newsmare, who was elected to office only in 2018, is fighting for his political future in the by-elections, which are being held for only the second time in California history despite 55 previous attempts.

The campaign to oust him was started by a conservative Republican group and he gained momentum during the Corona plague. Conservatives, outraged by the governor's liberal policy towards the proud, migrant and criminal community, also protested the restrictions he imposed on the fight against the virus, including closing schools and the obligation to wear masks and vaccinations.

Republican radio presenter Larry Elder, an ardent supporter of Trump, leads the list of 46 candidates who want to replace their newcomer. He promised to abolish corona and vaccine restrictions.

If the Democratic governor, who enjoys popularity in one of the most progressive states in the United States, is indeed ousted, this is likely to have implications for next year's midterm elections to Congress.

In addition, his removal from office may also put an end to his future aspirations for the Senate or the presidency.

According to recent polls, support for their newcomer is solid. A poll published Friday by the Institute for Government Studies at the University of Berkeley, 60.1% of those expected to vote said they support the governor compared to 38.5% who want to replace him. According to official figures, in the four weeks in which early voting took place, Democrat voters cast twice as many votes as Republicans. About 38% of eligible voters have already voted.

This is a significant turnaround compared to the beginning of the summer, when polls showed that so few Democrats intended to vote, that Newam's office was in jeopardy. Only a quarter of California voters are identified as Republicans.

"Polls have changed the democratic mindset, from staying seated on the couch to saying 'this is something we must do,'" said Paul Mitchell, who heads the company Political Data Intelligence, which analyzes voter turnout.

According to the California electoral system, if more than 50 percent of respondents support the governor's removal, their answer to the second question on the ballot papers will decide who will be the next governor of the most populous state in the United States and its largest economy.

In a Berkeley poll, Eldar won 38 percent of the vote of those expected to vote for the replacement of the Democratic governor.

It was followed by Democratic YouTube presenter Kevin Farth, with 10% of the vote.

Among the other candidates is also reality star Caitlin Jenner.

It is not clear when the results of the final election will be known in light of the many votes cast by mail, which could have been sent to date.

Unlike Democrats, many Republicans are expected to vote in the polls themselves, following Trump’s false claims about the vote-rigging in last November’s presidential election.

In recent days, the former president has argued that the California election will also be "fake" against Republicans.

Elder said similar things.

Last week, he told reporters in Los Angeles that "there may be antics."

Mitchell said that in order for Yunsam to be ousted, Republicans would need a special voting rate at the polls alongside a slowdown in the Democrats' voting tip.

Rafael Sunshine, a political science expert from the University of California, said if Newman retains his seat, he will reach next year’s re-election from a strong position, while Republicans are expected to weaken after a failure to oust him.

"The closest thing to Trump's clone"

In recent weeks, the California governor has stepped up his calls for voters and linked the election to Trump. He said Elder would impose a conservative policy on abortion, immigration, weapons and other issues.

Yesterday, President Joe Biden joined Newam at a rally in Long Beach, near Los Angeles, warning that the Republican-led re-election is part of their efforts to oust Democrats from power and expand voting, civil rights and abortion restrictions. The Democratic Party mentioned Trump's policies and the Republicans who adopted his false claims about the recent election theft, in order to encourage voters to go to the polls.

"I had to face the real Donald Trump," Biden told an audience of several hundred supporters at the local college. "Well, this year, the leading Republican candidate for governor is the closest thing to a Trump clone I've seen," added the president, who did not mention Elder by name.

Newsmagene, who spoke before Biden, used similar emails and repeated his regular line: "We may have defeated Donald Trump, but we have not defeated Trumpism. Trumpism is still on the ballot in California."

The president and governor met before the rally in Sacramento, the capital of California.

Biden also visited the country to review the damage done by the huge fires in the area and then flew with Newsm on the presidential plane to Long Beach.
