Police arrived in the Mea Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem to help secure the dismantling of a huge arbor, which, according to the municipality, was erected without a permit.

In the wake of the evacuation, violent clashes broke out at the site between hundreds of protesters and police forces.

Dozens of residents barricaded themselves in the sukkah to make evacuation operations more difficult.

As part of the clashes the protesters threw stones and eggs at the police.

A city employee was hit in the head, and at least one protester was arrested.

Representatives of the ultra-Orthodox community discussed with representatives of the police and the municipality and agreed that the sukkah will be dismantled within the next 24 hours.
