One year late and on a smaller scale than planned, the Jesenwang boys were able to celebrate their 25th anniversary - and have their new flag consecrated.

So far, the good piece was unused in the closet due to corona.

Jesenwang

- Given the circumstances, the celebration made it difficult for the speakers.

This was shown by the deputy district administrator Martina Drechsler.

"For 25 years ...", she began and continued after a short pause: "... the boys' association has actually been part of the life of the community for 26 years." The founding date is April 1st, 1995 Chronicle immortalized.

Actually, Markus Söder would have been there

And actually the big celebration for the 25-year-old was planned for 2020 - over four days in a beer tent with 1000 guests, a cabaret evening with Chris Böttcher and a political evening at which Prime Minister Markus Söder was supposed to speak to the guests.

But then, for known reasons, everything turned out very differently.

"We were told beforehand that there was a strange virus in China and that our party might not take place as planned," remembers today's chairman of the boys' association, Markus Fraunhofer.

At that time, however, they were still optimistic - which ultimately turned out to be a misjudgment.

"After several postponements, we are all the happier that we can now carry out the flag consecration."

Cheers to the boys' clubs

The framework is of course still different than originally planned due to the pandemic.

One instead of four days, a tent with around 350 instead of 1000 visitors, Bavaria's Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber instead of Prime Minister Söder: Everything turned out a little smaller.

"But a small frame can often be more cozy," said Mayor Erwin Fraunhofer.

Or as his son and boy boss Markus put it: "It already fits."

The guest list at the first major celebration in Jesenwang since the outbreak of the pandemic was illustrious.

In addition to Kaniber, the CSU member of the Bundestag Katrin Staffler was there - as was her colleague from the Bavarian state parliament, Benjamin Miskowitsch.

This played a special role: He not only established contacts with Kaniber, but also belongs to the Mammendorfer Burschenverein - the Jesenwanger sponsor association since 2019.

No wonder that Miskowitsch got the loudest applause - and even more so than Erwin Fraunhofer announced that the CSU politician has become a father again.

He had also given Kaniber the express wish not to give a political speech in the election year.

The Minister of Agriculture did not consider that to be necessary.

"Because the boys' associations make a political statement themselves," she said.

They would know what to defend: the Bavarian values of loyalty, solidarity, unity, tradition and culture.

"A cheer for the boys' clubs," said Kaniber to the applause of the guests.

Pastor Wolfgang Huber had already earned a lot of spontaneous applause and a few laughs.

For his humorous sermon at the festival service.

In this context, the boys' new flag was finally consecrated and the flag ribbons of the clubs attached.

Anniversary as the perfect time

The idea for the new flag came up as early as 2018 at the annual general meeting in spring, ”reported Markus Fraunhofer.

The 25th anniversary was of course the perfect time for the inauguration of the new piece.

But instead of holy water, the flag got a little dust after its completion, because it disappeared unused in the cupboard.

But it didn't hurt her.

This was evident at the belated festival, when the flag bearer Tobias Heiss carried the gem during the procession through the town.
