The beginning of the second day of hearing in the trial for the femicide of

Araceli Fulles

 (22) began with an unusual situation:

Hugo Martín Cabañas (45)

, one of those accused of the crime, ended up handcuffed before entering the courtroom because he wanted to do it

with a faca

.

In a harsh ruling that questioned the investigation for the crime and the errors during the first stage of the investigation, Chamber I of the Cassation Chamber had ordered the freedom of the accused prior to the trial.

Since then, threats have been a constant for Araceli's family and some of the witnesses.

Two weeks before the date stipulated for the start of the trial, Mónica Ferreyra (62), Araceli's mother, received a threatening video through Facebook.

It was Carlos Damián Cassalz (39), one of the defendants, with a machine gun.

"They sent me this chat at four in the morning. It's a video of this guy walking with a machine gun. I don't know who sent it to me, but I took a screenshot of what they sent me, and I reported it to the prosecutor," he confirmed Mónica Ferreyra, Araceli's mother, to

Télam

.

"The one who was arrested yesterday (on Sunday)

is the one who really murders Araceli

, together with the other defendants. He was the one who screwed the seal around her neck to end up killing her," Ricardo Fulles said after the first day of the debate, father of the victim, regarding Cassalz.

The trial prosecutor, Mariana Piwarczuk, aware that Cassalz is one of the main defendants for the crime, since he had already been sentenced to two years in prison for having threatened another witness in the context of this case, requested his arrest.

Cassalz is the owner of the corral where Araceli was murdered.

He was captured by the National Gendarmerie at a José León Suárez school when he went to vote this Sunday.

Two days later, Cabañas appeared in the courtroom of the San Martín Courts with a knife.

According to the people in charge of the security of the room, they also checked Hernán Rodrigo Badaracco, Carlos Antonio Ibarra, Marcelo Escobedo, Daniel Alaniz and the brothers Jonathan and Emanuel Ávalos, the other defendants, before entering the room.

Carlos Damián Cassalz (39), arrested when he went to vote.

He is one of those accused of the femicide of Araceli Fulles.

It was at that moment that they discovered that Cabañas had a cutting element hidden in his clothes.

This is a sharp half scissors that was kidnapped.

This man was one of two corralón employees who were involved in the crime, but the only one who made it to trial alive.

The other was Darío Badaracco (31).

They killed him with boiling water in unit No. 2 of the Sierra Chica prison in April 2019, in what they described as "a fight of prisoners."

The case

Araceli Fulles was last seen on April 2, 2017 when she was returning to her home from José León Suárez.

"

Old woman, prepare things for the mate that I'm going home,

" said the last message he sent to Mónica Ferreyra.

But the young woman never came.

During the first days of the investigation, the role of the Buenos Aires Police in the search for the young woman was objected to because of her friendship with the Badaracco.

The questions to his life and the photos of his social networks spread faster than the operations to find Araceli

.

The truth is that it took them 27 days to find his body thanks to a rake with the dog Alcón, from the K9 Search and Rescue Brigade of Punta Alta.

The body was semi-buried under a folder at the back of Darío Badaracco's house and covered with lime to accelerate its decomposition.

Due to the number of days that passed until they found her, the tests carried out on her body could not yield many results that would allow the investigation to be strengthened.

What they could prove, and with that accusation they went to trial, is that Araceli went to eat a barbecue with a group of friends the night before the crime.

She left that house with Emanuel Ávalos, who picked her up in his vehicle.

They went to the Plaza de Pasaje 101 and Buenos Aires, in José León Suárez, where Jonathan Ávalos, Emanuel's brother, was, along with the rest of the accused.

At this point they shared a few hours in the morning.

Investigators presume that she was transferred to Carlos Damián Cassalz's corralón, about five blocks away.

In this place, it is presumed, she would have been murdered.

He was the

victim of mechanical suffocation with a seal

and, for Araceli's family, the murderer was Cassalz.

In that corralón, Darío Badaracco and Hugo Cabañas, who also participated in the crime, worked as employees.

Although the investigators found enough elements to go to trial, what happens in the days scheduled until October 7 will be key.

As well as what the more than 300 witnesses who will be summoned to tell what happened that night and the days after the search can testify.

Darío Badaracco was assassinated in prison.

After killing Araceli, they allegedly transferred her to a secondary crime scene: Badaracco's house.

For this reason, since his arrest, he has been identified as the main suspect.

Another of the hypotheses that were analyzed in the file referred to the fact that the place of the crime could have been that place.

With Badaracco dead in prison,

Cassalz is the prime suspect

.

He has a record of carrying a weapon of war and, according to the Police, he would have been linked to the kidnapping of Cristian Riquelme, Juan Román's brother, something for which he was never tried.

He had recovered his freedom when Chamber I of the San Martín Appeals Chamber made the appeal of the preventive detention presented by the defense of the accused.

All were released except Badaracco.

The first thing he did was go to the house of one of the witnesses and threaten his mother: "

If I see your son, I have to break his chest because he didn't help us in any way in the case

," he rebuked her.

Another day, the woman and her son saw a blue Volkswagen Bora pass by in front of their house.

From one of the windows, someone took out a gun and showed it to him.

For that fact, Cassalz served two years in prison.
