The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom, has expressed the organization's refusal to request passports confirming vaccination against Corona as a prerequisite for discrimination in travel due to the lack of vaccines in some regions.
And Sputnik quoted Adhanom as saying today: "We do not want to use vaccine passports as a prerequisite for travel due to the lack of equality in taking vaccinations. It will be a tool of discrimination and will not help.. Therefore, at this time, it cannot be used, especially if it is a condition for travel."
At the same time, Adhanom indicated his readiness to consider this matter in the future when vaccine coverage increases globally, noting that for this reason, the organization helps countries working on passports for vaccines so that we can obtain a unified system.
In a related context, experts at the World Health Organization called on the governments of countries seeking to revaccinate the population against the Corona virus with additional doses to abandon this procedure, and suggested sending surplus vaccines to countries where the percentage of vaccinated people is still low.
The experts explained in an open letter published in the scientific journal “The Lancet” in this regard, “The vaccine reserves against the Corona virus are still very limited, and even if strengthening the immunity of people who have already been vaccinated is beneficial, this effect does not exceed the benefits that humanity will reap from vaccinating the unvaccinated population.” “.
For her part, Anna Maria Inao Restrepo, head of the World Health Organization's Vaccine Development Program, said, "Abandoning revaccination will help us bring the epidemic closer."
According to experts, such steps will effectively contribute to accelerating the eradication of the Corona Covid 19 epidemic and protecting humanity from the emergence of new strains that will be able to confront antibodies and other forms of immunity.
