Maisach - Sometimes you have to be creative: The police are used to handcuffing criminals - but horses are a novelty here.

After his owner's Icelandic stallion Wotan escaped on a walk in Maisach (Fürstenfeldbruck district) on Sunday morning, an officer from the state police caught him near the Gernlinden S-Bahn station.

Before that, however, Wotan paralyzed the railway line.

"I've had Wotan for eleven years and nothing like this has ever happened before"

"I've had Wotan for eleven years, and nothing like this has ever happened before," says the owner, Victoria Tabel (43) from Seefeld. But this morning something was different. Tabel was over the weekend with Wotan at a horse farm where the Bavarian Icelandic Horse Championships were taking place. While walking around seven in the morning, Wotan was unusually nervous. "Suddenly he made a leap and tore himself away," says Tabel. Something must have frightened the stallion, but Tabel couldn't see what it was in the misty morning mist. In any case, Wotan ran off - along the tracks. The horse galloped a full four kilometers. At times, Wotan was even directly on the tracks, which is why the S-Bahn and train traffic were stopped. Meanwhile, Tabel, together with other horse owners, was looking forwho were also at the championships, desperate their Icelanders.

Finally the police came to the rescue. A state police officer, herself a horse owner, caught Wotan and took him to the street with handcuffs. The horse was arrested without resistance, as reported by the Olching police. A resident offered her garden as a stopover for Wotan until the owner Tabel arrived with a horse trailer. “What could have happened there! Fortunately, Wotan is unharmed, ”says the 43-year-old. She is very grateful to all helpers. Wotan is now back at home in Seefeld.
