It was love at first sight

Georg and Katharina Salvamoser from Unterumbach celebrate their wedding of grace.

The two have been married for 70 years.

It was love at first sight.

- Georg and Katharina Salvamoser had a big heartfelt wish a few years ago: They hoped that they would be able to celebrate the Iron Wedding.

This wish came true!

Five years ago.

Now the two have even celebrated an occasion that very few couples have: their grace wedding.

The two celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at home with their large family in Unterumbach.

Mayor Helmut Zech also stopped by with an attention on this special anniversary on behalf of the Pfaffenhofen community and congratulated the couple.

The two's recipe for success for a long, happy marriage: "zamm 'hoit'n".

When the now 95-year-old Georg and his now 93-year-old Katharina met for the first time at a dance festival in 1949, it happened to both of them immediately.

It was “love at first sight,” they say.

The two married two years later.

The couple tied the knot on September 7, 1951

A proud 70 years ago, Katharina and Georg Salvamoser tied the knot.

To this day they happily think back to the day of their civil wedding on September 7, 1951 in Pfaffenhofen and the church wedding one day later in the Sankt-Martins-Kirche in Unterumbach.

The couple was even accompanied to church with brass music.

A big and happy family

Katharina Salvamoser was born in Unterumbach and after the wedding the young couple settled there and started a family.

The children Edeltraud, Erwin and Angelika gave their parents six grandchildren.

The couple now also have four great-grandchildren.

“We can't think of anything better,” says Katharina Salvamoser.

The children and grandchildren come by several times a week and help where help is needed.

Because despite their age and some health restrictions, the Salvamosers still manage their life quite well on their own and are known in Unterumbach for their beautiful garden.

Gardening is a big hobby they both have in common.

Larger jobs such as mowing the lawn are now taken care of by the family.

For the 70th wedding anniversary, the family organized a barbecue for Katharina and Georg Salvamoser at home.

So the couple didn't have to worry about anything and could enjoy the hours with their loved ones to the full.
