An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit the coastal areas near the city of Shingo in southeastern Japan, but no injuries or material damage were reported.
The site of Russia Today quoted the US Geological Survey as saying in a statement that "the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 376 kilometers and 230 kilometers northwest of the city of Shingo, southeast of Japan."
On the third of last month, an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck northeastern Japan.
Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where earthquakes and volcanoes are active.
