Maria Thalheim and the Holzland communities could soon found a new water association (WZV).

At the Fraunhofer municipal council meeting, engineer Klaus Mitter, managing director of the shp GmbH office, presented a corresponding water supply concept.

Maria Thalheim / Holzland - There is currently an emergency association between Maria Thalheim and Inning, as Mayor Hans Wiesmaier (CSU) explained.

The Thalheimer Wasserwerk in Oberbierbach has a well capacity of twelve liters per second and pumps 400 cubic meters of water daily.

Inning comes to the same amount.

The water authority Holzland, however, could pump 14.5 liters per second and 1100 cubic meters of water per day, whereby the WZV Holzland is already working close to its capacity limit.

A merger has various advantages, explained Mitter, especially in terms of security of supply.

The water of the three areas is quite similar in terms of hardness and minerals and can be mixed without any problems.

Particularly in crisis and catastrophe situations, there is security of supply with a merger.

Wiesmaier added: “I think we have all learned that we have to think about disaster situations more often and be prepared.” Joint management would also create new synergies.

This has already been determined in the WZV Berglerner Group, to which Wartenberg has joined.

In addition, a larger team can better solve new challenges (Wiesmaier: "We will face new challenges that we have never heard of before.").

"A joint WZV would strengthen the water supply for the future, and the whole thing would remain in municipal hands."

The mayor also said that investments would be cheaper in the medium term because they would then be taken over by several municipalities.

However, it is not easy to set up a WZV, as the connecting lines between the municipalities would have to be partially replaced.

Here the water pressure does not match.

However, there are federal and state subsidies, explained Wiesmaier.

One point that citizens will probably struggle with is the price of water.

"The other municipalities are around 1.20 euros per 1000 liters," said Wiesmaier.

"We were able to keep the price of one euro because we had been supplying innings for two years." However, the citizens must be made clear that water costs something.

There are places where people would pay three euros for 1,000 liters.

Managing director Mitter and his engineering office are now to deepen the planning for a joint tool management, as there was consensus in the committee. Mayor Wiesmaier also announced that he would organize information events for citizens to educate those affected about the issue.
