In response to the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays approaching, the illicit cigarette group chose to store a large amount of illicit cigarettes in iron houses in remote villages in an eagerness to replenish its supply, and used nearby pig farms as a cover to evade investigation.

After investigation, the Customs smashed an illicit cigarette storage warehouse in Pat Heung, Yuen Long yesterday (13th), seized 15 million illicit cigarettes and arrested three local men.

The market value of the illicit cigarettes involved is about 45 million yuan, and the taxable value is about 28 million yuan. In addition to a large number of traditional cigarettes, it also includes a batch of e-cigarettes and e-cigarette smoking tools. The Senior Investigation Director of the Tax Investigation Division of the Tax Crime Investigation Division, Liang Qicong, explained the case at a press conference this afternoon. The customs officers intercepted the three men involved in the case in Ma'angang Village, Paxiang, when they were about to enter a tin factory. As a result, officers found the batch of illicit cigarettes in a truck and a warehouse on the premises, and arrested 3 people (24-36 years old) on the spot.

The three arrested include key members of the group. Two of them reported unemployed and the other reported as a driver. Customs believes that the operation has smashed a large illicit cigarette storage and packaging factory.

Investigations revealed that the tin yard involved is estimated to have been in operation for several months. It is located in a dim and remote place. The road to the tin yard is tortuous. The private cigarette group even arranged private cars to patrol outside the tin yard.

At the same time, the iron field is highly fortified. In addition to the iron gates, there are also electric gates. You need to open two gates to enter, making it more difficult for customs officers to detect.

There are also two pig farms outside the tin farm. The lawbreakers use the pig farm as a cover. The aversion to the environment in the hot summer makes this enforcement action even more difficult.

Liang Qicong continued that in the past few weeks, the customs had smashed several illicit cigarette warehouses in urban industrial buildings. It is believed that in the coming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, criminals are eager to replenish the supply and change their strategy to store illicit cigarettes in remote locations to avoid detection. , The case is still under investigation.

Liang also pointed out that the customs has seized more than 293 million illicit cigarettes so far this year, more than 45% of last year's total, and will continue to crack down on illicit cigarette activities.
