The problems between mountain bikers, hikers, farmers and foresters on and around the Hohe Peißenberg are coming to a head.

There are numerous complaints about inconsiderate cyclists on the one hand and dangerous actions against cyclists on the other.

Hohenpeißenberg - How much the problems between inconsiderate cyclists, residents, hikers and farmers on the Hohen Peißenberg have come to a head became clear, among other things, in an incident for which the police were looking for witnesses at the beginning of May: On May 8, a 20-year-old cyclist was from Peißenberg on his mountain bike on a graveled hiking trail from the Bergstrasse to the south, towards Bergmannstrasse. Just a few meters below the mountain road, he drove over a small board of nails about ten centimeters wide that had been placed there by a hitherto unknown person. Fortunately, the accident ended with property damage of around 50 euros. The bicycle tires were damaged, but the young man was uninjured. He didn't even fall.

It was sheer luck that the incident went so smoothly. A cyclist who drives downhill - probably at high speed - over a board of nails can fall badly and, with bad luck, even fall on the protruding nails and seriously injure himself. Investigations were initiated against the unknown perpetrator who had placed the board of nails there because of dangerous interference with road traffic and property damage.

The police are also investigating another matter in connection with mountain bikers on the Hohen Peißenberg: As local councilor Rudi Hochenauer reported in one of the previous council meetings, a forester who is responsible for a forest on the mountain in which an illegal trail has been created has Report made against unknown persons. "The background to this is a question of liability," said Hochenauer. It could happen that the forester is liable for accidents that happen on the illegal trail because he tolerated it.

The attack on mountain bikers in May should not have been the only one, as an insider, who does not want to have his name revealed, reports: "Nail boards have already been laid out twice," he says. He belongs to a group of cyclists who regularly pursue their hobby on the Hohen Peißenberg. He wants to encourage understanding for the mountain bikers there: “We just want to be able to do our sport,” he says. Not everyone who likes mountain biking is inconsiderate bike rowdies. “We are a larger group that pays attention to hikers, for example,” says the mountain biker. He and his friends are not on the designated hiking trails. In general, his group attaches great importance to bothering others as little as possible and not causing any damage.

He regrets that the conflicts at Hohen Peißenberg have come to a head.

Like many other mountain bikers, he would appreciate it if there were legal opportunities to practice his sport and if one or more trails were to be laid out on the mountain.

As previously reported, efforts are being made to create an official trail on which mountain bikers can legally pursue their sport.

But so far the search for suitable land has been difficult, as Mayor Thomas Dorsch reported in one of the previous municipal council meetings: "Many owners have had bad experiences and do not want a trail running over their property."
