Live broadcast from the Western Wall plaza

Only 8,000 people are expected to participate tonight (Tuesday) in a state of apology at the Western Wall plaza in Jerusalem, a day before Yom Kippur. This is an event attended by more than one hundred thousand people every year, but tonight it will be held in a limited format due to the limitations of the corona.

The entrance to the Western Wall plaza is according to "first come, first served" and after the entry of the 8,000 worshipers, the entrances towards the Western Wall will be closed, including the gates of the Old City and the streets leading to it. Police expressed concern about mass pressure at the entrance to the Western Wall and stressed earlier that it is "important to inform the public about avoiding mental distress and unnecessary pressure."

The main rabbis David Lau and Yitzhak Yosef, Rabbi of the Western Wall and the Holy Places, Shmuel Rabinovich, Mayor Moshe Leon, public figures and senior figures in the religious world are present. The class tonight will mark 40 days of slichot as the Sephardi custom, and about two weeks as the Ashkenazi custom, in a class where people from all streams - ultra-Orthodox, religious and secular - from all over the country pray.

The Jerusalem police conducted reinforcements in preparation for the class.

As part of the police deployment, checkpoints were set up to regulate the crowd in order to direct the public expected to arrive at the Western Wall plaza in accordance with the limit of the number of participants set by the political echelon.

In light of the prayers held at the Western Wall plaza, the Israel Police is currently stepping up its activities around the Old City and its alleys, on the arteries of the worshipers' movement and at the Western Wall.

Slichot classes were held at the Western Wall in recent weeks, and every night between 5,000 and 7,000 worshipers participated.

At the main event held last Thursday, about 2,000 people gathered at the Jaffa Gate who watched Slichot on huge screens and a screening of the walls erected by the Western Wall Heritage Foundation in collaboration with the Jerusalem Municipality.

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation, which is responsible for managing the Western Wall, stressed that this is a "challenging conduct", in which "corona ushers" were reinforced, which together with the police enforce the obligation to wear masks and move people between the capsules placed in the two Western Wall extensions.

The prayer tonight will end the period of the "Ten Days of Repentance" - the days between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur that are considered significant, when according to Jewish tradition on Rosh Hashanah a person's judgment was written and on Yom Kippur his judgment was signed.

Green mark in synagogues, charging children for tests

Yom Kippur itself will begin tomorrow with the entry of the fast at 18:00, and it will last about 25 hours.

As a rule, according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, synagogues are required to check a green sign at the entrance to the compound if more than 50 worshipers gather there.

Children from the age of 12 can enter based on PCR tests (rapid test is not valid).

The ministry's recommendation is to hold the prayers in open spaces.

Also, from Wednesday at 12:00, on the eve of Yom Kippur, and until Friday - there will be no corona tests at the PCR testing complexes.
