Homs-Sana
Engineer Naji Saed, head of the Department of Fruitful Trees in the Directorate of Agriculture in Homs, stated that the initial production estimates of olives amounted to 44 thousand tons, of which 7 thousand tons were in irrigated agriculture and 37 thousand tons were from the cultivated land in Ila, noting that the total number of trees is about 16 million trees, most of which are fruitful planted. It covers an area of approximately 96.5 thousand hectares, of which 12.5 thousand hectares are irrigated and 84 thousand hectares are rain-fed.
Saed pointed out in a statement to SANA Economic Bulletin that the general condition of the olive crop this season is medium to light in many regions, due to the climatic conditions, where many flowers fell during the decade.
The total number of olive presses for the 2020 season in the governorate reached 67, of which 44 are operating, 19 non-operating and 4 newly licensed, while the final production for the 2020 season reached about 85,000 tons.
