The Lattakia Athletics Championships, which was set up by the Technical Committee for all age groups, concluded at Al-Basel Stadium and Al-Assad Sports City, in preparation for the Republic’s elite summer championship scheduled in Lattakia on the twenty-fifth of this month.

In the girls’ birth category championship in 2002, Sidra Shehadeh won first place in the 3 km competition, Nour Al-Huda Hassan in the 1500 meters competition, Nour Al-Atrash in the triple jump, and in the 2003 category, the female athletes Maya Sheheta won the 110 meters hurdles and 100 meters competitions, Maryam Hamad in the 3 km competition and Maha Khuzam in the high jump.

The first place in the category of born 2004 was Shams Darwish with triple jump, Batoul Faris with javelin throw and Yola Al-Alouni with 3 km jogging, and born 2005 Sarah Tohme with petanque, Naya Raya with 1500 metres, and Joel Jamil with javelin throw, while the results of the category of born 2006 resulted in Judy Tohma winning the long and triple jump competitions and Naya Abbas in the 200-meter and 400-meter hurdles, with 2007 Jodi Saleh with petanque, Maryam Salama with 3 km jogging, and with 2008-born Hala Kanafani with discus throw, Tala Sabbouh with 200 meters, and Hala Suleiman with 400 meters hurdles.

In the boys’ championship in the 2000-meter category, Ali Daoud won the 200-meter competition, the 2002-born Ali Hawks with a javelin throw, and the 2003-born Ahmed Al-Nasser in the 1500-meter run and 3km run, Nabil Qanbar in the triple jump, Youssef Ibrahim in discus throw, Haider Mia with the iron ball, and Janada Al-Khair in the 5km competition.

The first place was won by the 2004-born Saleh Hassan in the 200-meter and 400-meter hurdles competitions, Majd Zreika with the 1500-meter hurdle, the 2005-born Socrates Ghanem in the 200-meter competition, Moussa Ashkrian with the triple jump, Majd Al-Dakr with the discus throw, Ahmed Ibrahim with the petanque, Bashar Zaifa with the 400-meter hurdles, and the born 2006 Muhammad Juma in the 200 competition. Muhammed Qaja with 800 metres, Ammar al-Turk with 1500 metres, Zine El Abidine Ali at 3km, Zaid Darwish and Socrates Ghanem with 200m and 5km. Born in 2007, Hassan Mahmoud, with 1500m run and 3km run, Ali Al-Atrash with javelin throw and push of the ball and Tim Hassan with 400m Hurdles, born in 2008, Amjad Mayassa, in the 200-meter competition, and Ali Deeb with javelin throwing.

Maurice Obeid, head of the Technical Committee for Athletics in Latakia, told SANA correspondent that the best players and top-ranked players will be selected to be included in the governorate’s team to participate in the upcoming Republic Elite Championship, expecting that the governorate’s players will compete for the first places in the upcoming tournament.
