For many Germans, summer vacation is over - and some have spent theirs abroad.
The RKI summarizes how many were infected with Corona.
Most Germans have now returned home from their summer vacation.
Most popular holiday destinations were islands in the Mediterranean, including Mallorca * and Crete.
However, many Germans also spent their holidays in their home country out of fear of being infected with the corona virus or due to the numerous travel restrictions.
The
rapid spread of the more contagious delta variant of the coronavirus
caused uncertainty among travelers.
A current weekly report from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reveals how many people have actually been infected abroad in the past few weeks.
Most Germans continue to be infected at home
In a total of 87,572 corona cases reported to the RKI in the last four weeks, those affected stated
Germany as the location of exposure
. Most of the people in this country are still infected with the corona virus. In 26,218 cases, however, the people stated that they were abroad as the place of infection. It shows that it is currently in the
Balkans
comes to most of the infections: Turkey was named the most frequently with a total of 6,087 cases.
Kosovo is just behind with 5,713 cases.
Croatia was given as an exposure site by 2,475 people.
Classic holiday countries such as Italy or Greece can also be found among the ten countries that were given the most.
Spain, on the other hand, which had to struggle with high numbers of infections in the meantime and was nevertheless visited by many German holidaymakers, seems to have played a minor role in the infections.

Overall, the proportion of new infections reported from abroad has
fallen
to
17 percent
in
recent weeks
. Two weeks earlier it was 27 percent. However, there is no more detailed information on whether the person concerned was abroad, on vacation, visiting relatives, on business or otherwise. In addition, in the majority of the reported cases, no data is available on where the infection occurred. In 49 percent of the cases reported in the last four weeks,
no information was given about a likely country of infection
- therefore the information available only provides an incomplete picture.
