The Dachau family pool experienced a low point this summer in terms of visitor numbers.

No wonder.

2019 was the last summer before Corona - and the weather was very mixed.

The public utilities operating the family pool could therefore be satisfied with the 131,000 bathers.

A year earlier, in the hot summer of 2018, there were also 130,000 visitors - far from the record summer of 2015, when the municipal utilities counted 167,000 bathing fans.

Family bathroom managers can only dream of numbers like these this year.

The summer of 2021 will be the high point - or the low point - of the past few years.

Open from the end of May until last Sunday, according to the Stadtwerke bathing manager Barbara Kern, only 59,000 visitors came to the Dachau family bath this year - even though neither the Vierkirchen natural baths nor the Ainhofen outdoor baths were open.

The reason for the bad numbers is, on the one hand, the pool manager Kern sees in the mixed weather: “There weren't any consistently beautiful days.

Once it was warm, the next day it was cold again. "

In addition, there was the person restriction: Instead of 5000 visitors as in pre-Corona times, only a maximum of 2500 bathers were allowed on the site at the same time.

Many visitors were deterred

But even this maximum number of 2500 visitors was only reached on two days this summer, reports Kern.

Which, of course, was also due to the general conditions of corona-compliant bathing operations.

The visitors had to register before their visit, as reported, this had caused difficulties especially for the elderly or people without a smartphone.

According to Kern, this problem could be solved if the Stadtwerke colleagues were willing to provide assistance.

But, according to Kern, "many may have been deterred by this prior registration and the mask requirement".

After a year of Corona, many district citizens would have literally searched the distance on the beautiful days: either to the lakes in the Upper Bavarian region or to the mountains.

“The people wanted out,” Kern sums it up.

The good news: the rules have changed for the upcoming indoor swimming pool season, which started last Monday. Prior registration is no longer mandatory. A must, however, is proof of having either been tested, vaccinated or recovered. However, there are exceptions to this 3G rule: Children under six years of age or students with a student ID do not need to show a test certificate. These children and adolescents, explains Kern, are regularly tested for the coronavirus in school.
