Berlin - For several days, hardly any movement has been seen in the infection process in Germany.

The incidence seems to have leveled off.

On this Wednesday, the number of new coronavirus infections is even lower than a week ago

(see current corona case numbers below in the text)

.

No reason to give the all-clear.

The Saarbrücken expert for corona forecasts Thorsten Lehr does not consider the stagnation of new infections for the end of the fourth wave and a sudden increase in the corona numbers to be possible.

"We were able to observe this behavior of the incidence curve almost to the day last year," said Lehr of the German Press Agency.

A year ago, too, the incidence fell slightly and remained at a constant, slightly lower level than it is now, before it rose sharply again at the end of September.

"Given the current vaccination situation and the relaxed contact restrictions, a similar increase can be expected at the end of September and again at the beginning of October," warned Lehr.

Expert: Returning travelers bring in infections

Lehr justified the stagnation in the number of infections with the declining number of travelers returning and the infections they brought in. In addition, the number of infections among schoolchildren rose explosively in many federal states after the summer holidays. Due to the continuous testing and quarantine measures with contact persons, in many places one to two weeks after starting school there is stagnation or even a decrease in the numbers in this age group.

The new school year started this week in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.

In Bavaria relies on masks and compulsory testing.

In some regions of the Free State, the infection rate is extreme even before school starts.

The district of Traunstein (220.3), the district of Berchtesgadener Land and also the city of Rosenheim (199.7) have high numbers of infections.

Neustadt an der Weinstrasse (Rhineland-Palatinate) currently has the highest value according to the Covid-19 dashboard of the Robert Koch Institute * (RKI): 232.6.

Only one region in Germany has been "Corona-free" for days - Eisenach in the west of Thuringia.

Corona in Germany: Incidence decreased slightly

The 7-day incidence in Germany has decreased slightly compared to the previous day.

The value is now 77.9 (previous day: 81.1; previous week: 82.7).

This is evident from the data from the Robert Koch Institute.

In the past 24 hours, the RKI recorded 12,455 new corona infections.

A week ago there were 1,110 more positive corona tests.

83 more deaths were recorded.

A week ago there were 35 deaths.

The RKI gives a value of 1.86 for the hospitalization incidence on Tuesday (Friday: 1.79).

A weekly or monthly comparison is not possible due to the high number of late registrations.

The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

Six times more Covid-19 patients in intensive care units than a year ago

1,523 Covid-19 patients currently have to be treated in the intensive care units.

785 of them are artificially ventilated.

This can be seen from the data in the DIVI intensive care register.

A year ago on September 15, 2020, there were 232 corona patients.
