In the
Israelite Cemetery of La Tablada
there is no peace.
Only 10 days after an attack and robbery during the hours of the Jewish New Year, the place was again vandalized when
three intruders tried to take 223 bronze plaques that they ripped from the graves
.
The
AMIA
, a
mutual association for the Jewish community, made the incident known in a harsh statement
calling the authorities "incompetent".
According to the
letter from the Israelite Mutual Association
published on its website, the event occurred on the
morning of Tuesday 15,
at
the beginning of Yom Kippur or "Day of Atonement."
At that moment
the
employees
of the cemetery
noticed the presence of
three men
with
suspicious attitude
and as they approached,
two
of them
started running
.
The
personnel managed to catch one,
while the others
escaped through a border field.
When they opened the car of the detained suspect, they found a bag with 223 bronze plates.
Once the suspect was detained, they
called the police,
which according to the AMIA
took "more than 15 minutes"
to arrive.
The agents were in charge of asking the
suspect
to
open his vehicle and there they discovered the attempted robbery.
In the back seat they
found a bag containing 223 bronze plaques
, torn from different graves.
Meanwhile, other
employees with the police
headed to the nearby land, but
did not find the fugitives.
“The
AMIA wishes to express its gratitude and appreciation to the cemetery staff
, who risked their integrity and acted in a committed manner to achieve the arrest of the offender.
Likewise, it
regrets and denounces the lack of police personnel in the place,
”said the institution.
He added that
expects responses to this complaint
that perform within 10 days after the previous one
, when they suffered another theft plates and vandalizing several tombs.
Ten days earlier, the cemetery had suffered another license plate theft and the destruction of more than 100 headstones.
"AMIA hopes that the judicial investigation will be carried out quickly and effectively, and that it will reach depth so that it can find out how the repeated acts of vandalism that were duly denounced occurred," claimed the mutual.
The mutual
requires a definitive solution
, to respond
to the "problem of insecurity and lack of protection."
In another paragraph, he assures that "the Jewish community has been the target of different attacks; therefore, it is essential to take extreme security and surveillance measures in a sacred space such as the one that unfortunately has suffered so many acts of vandalism."
Finally, they
made a harsh criticism
of the authorities, since they maintain that
they do not receive the expected responses to the requests
made to the local authorities and to the Minister of Security of the Province of Buenos Aires, Sergio Berni, with whom they had a meeting at the beginning of 2021 where they asked for security measures.
The statement closes with harsh criticism of those responsible for protecting the cemetery, mentioning
"the indolence and incompetence of the authorities", and "the lack of results in the face of the complaints previously made by the institution
.
"
Theft on the Jewish New Year
On
Sunday, September 5
, at
the beginning of the Jewish New Year
, the cemetery
was the target of vandalism
as it
suffered
the
theft
of several
bronze plaques and the destruction of more than 100 tombstones.
From the AMIA at that time they repudiated the events through a statement, where they
asked the authorities of the Municipality of La Matanza to take urgent measures
to end once with this type of attacks, which are repeated periodically.
"We must deepen the investigation and find those responsible," they said
from the institution. In the letter, they also
gave details of the
vandalism, which resulted in the destruction of more than
100 tombstones and the theft of several plaques,
one of the usual targets
due to the value of bronze.
The
solution they suggested
is to
close the intermediate street
, which
divides the 'old part' from the 'new part'
because from that sector they
usually enter
to desecrate.
In this way
, the circulation of vehicles and people would be avoided
, since due to the lack of security cameras,
there is no other resource
available
to protect the place.
