(CNN Spanish) -

The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, accused the international community of financing the protests against his government that occurred this Wednesday, when hundreds of Salvadorans took to the streets to reject measures promoted by the president.

Among the claims during the protests, there is the implementation of bitcoin in El Salvador, the ruling of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice that leaves open the possibility for the re-election of Bukele and the decree that retires the judges and magistrates over 60 years old.

"The sad thing is that they are financing a perverse opposition," said Bukele on the national network, although without presenting evidence.

The president complained about the damage caused during the demonstrations.

"They vandalized not only monuments but public and private property, and it is not the first time they have done so," added Bukele.

An ATM for transactions with bitcoins was burned next to a kiosk that provides advice to users of the “chivo wallet”, an application created by the government for the use of cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin has been legal tender since September 7, when the law that obliges businesses to accept payments with bitcoin for goods and services came into force.

Bukele pointed out that his government did not repress the protests and complained because, even so, some countries indicate that a dictatorship is brewing in El Salvador.

“There is no dictatorship here.

Here is a democracy that has expressed itself freely at the polls and not once but twice, "he said.

The president refers to the 2019 elections, when he won the elections in the first round and with a large majority, and the 2021 elections when his party obtained the majority of local governments and control of the Legislative Assembly.

"They condemn us for wanting to purge our judicial system," Bukele said during his speech for 200 years of independence.

Different sectors have criticized the decree approved by the Legislative Assembly that retires all magistrates and judges over 60 years of age.

Until now, there was no age limit to hold the position.

Bukele reiterated to the international community, without naming any country specifically, that his government will maintain relations with everyone, but clarified that it will not allow "interference of any kind."
