Only little Eitan survived the accident, presumably because his mother had put her arms protectively around her child.
But for the now six-year-old, the next drama seems to be looming, the child was apparently kidnapped by his own grandfather.

The boy, who had not only lost his parents, his little brother and his great-grandparents in the accident, had lived on his father's side with his aunt, who also lived in Italy, since the accident. His aunt was also the one who had told the only survivor of the disaster of the death of his family. After Eitan had lived in Italy with his parents for years, the six-year-old was supposed to go to school there too. The aunt on the father's side was therefore appointed the child's legal guardian.
However, there are now serious allegations against the maternal grandfather that he is said to have “kidnapped” the six-year-old to Israel during a visit last weekend (September 11th).
After the suspicion of kidnapping had already been raised by a complaint, the said grandfather was now questioned by the police in Israel, according to media reports.
The man is said to be a 58-year-old, he was released.
However, the investigation against him continues.

The aunt, who was appointed as guardian by a court after the accident, relies on an international agreement for Eitan's return, namely the Hague Child Abduction Convention, which both Israel and Italy have signed up to. This is intended to protect children from kidnapping or deportation to other countries. It also provides for children to be returned to the state where they are used to before as soon as possible. The Italian government is considering intervening in the alleged kidnapping case.
