The man, known to justice, seriously wounded by gunshot on September 6 in Lucciana in Haute-Corse died, we learned Thursday from the Marseille prosecutor and a source close to the investigation.

His death from his injuries occurred at the Nice hospital where he had been transferred, said the latter source.

Christophe Catta, a 30-year-old breeder, was "

seriously injured

" by a "

bullet in the face

" when he left his residence by car, then told AFP a source familiar with the matter. The Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Marseille, in charge of organized crime cases, had taken up the investigation which had been opened by the Bastia prosecutor's office for "

attempted murder in an organized gang

" before being entrusted to co-referral to the judicial police and to the research section.

Christophe Catta was sentenced to three years in prison in July 2015 by the Marseille Criminal Court in a case of drug and arms trafficking in the bunkers of the former SNCM shipping company. This traffic was directed, in Corsica, by a team of criminals known as the Master Café, in reference to the bar of Lucciana where they met. Some 80,000 euros in cash, a kilo of cocaine, firearms and ammunition had been found during searches.
