Security officials in Germany today (Thursday) arrested four people, one of them a 16-year-old Syrian boy, on suspicion of plotting to hit a synagogue in the western city of Hagen during Yom Kippur.
This, two years after a terrorist attack near a synagogue in the city of Ella during the holiday.
Following the arrests, events that were supposed to take place at the synagogue in Hagen were canceled.
Police, who blocked access to the city's synagogue, said they were in close contact with the Jewish community.
The interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, where the basin is located, said authorities had received "very concrete and serious information" about a possible Yom Kippur attack.
He said the information warned of an Islamist terrorist attack and included the possible date of its execution and the person behind it.
He noted that police dogs did not locate any dangerous items in or near the synagogue.
This morning, the Syrian boy was arrested, in addition to three others who were arrested in a raid on another apartment.
The interior minister said authorities were investigating whether they were involved in planning the attack.
Raoul said the search continues throughout the basin, but did not provide further details or answer questions.
He did not say where the information came from.

According to Badr Spiegel, a foreign intelligence service has warned German security forces of the planned attack. After the suspect boy told another person in a network conversation that he was planning to plant an explosive device in a synagogue, security officials arrived at his home, where he lives with his father, and arrested him.
German Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht strongly condemned the attack that was thwarted in the Hague. "It is unbearable that Jews are once again exposed to such a terrible threat, and that they cannot celebrate together the beginning of their holy holiday, Yom Kippur, together," she said.
Two years ago, a far-right activist attacked a synagogue in the eastern city of Ella, in one of the most severe anti-Semitic attacks in Germany since the end of World War II.
The assailant tried unsuccessfully to break into the synagogue where there were 52 worshipers.
He then shot dead a 40-year-old passerby and a 20-year-old man outside a nearby kebab stand, due to being an immigrant by origin.
He published an antisemitic manifesto before the attack and broadcast live what was happening on a popular gaming platform.
