Georg Wiester headed the municipality of Eitting for twelve years.
Now the former town hall chief can also call himself a former mayor.
Eitting - "It is one of the most honorable tasks of a mayor to award this award," said the incumbent community chief Reinhard Huber and conferred the title on his predecessor.
The municipal council had already unanimously decided on the appointment on June 16 last year. But because of the pandemic, the award was not possible in a dignified framework for a long time. Now she was caught up in the school gym on Tuesday. In addition, Wiester signed the community's golden book. Afterwards, a small group of people celebrated. Wiester was in charge of the community from May 1, 2008 to April 30, 2020. He had been in the community's service since 1972, when Leonhard Zollner, then head of the town hall, hired him for the administration.
Huber recalled Wiester's professional successes. Wiester was always on site during the hearings on the third runway. The Rewe expansion, the designation of the Müllerpoint (Eitting) and Siglfinger Straße (Reisen) building areas or the expansion of the St. Georg children's home and school, including the renovation of the gymnasium, were key measures. Even before his time as mayor, Wiester was a registrar. In total, he carried out weddings for 40 years.
But once he forgot one. Wiester himself shared this anecdote. "You, Schorsch, there are two who want to get married," said the former community servant Adi Hirner on a Friday morning at around 10.30 am. Wiester, dressed casually in jeans, had a cold run down his back. He had noted the wedding for 3 p.m. on his calendar. A quick call home: “Adelgund, suit out, shoes out,” he said to his wife, dashed home and trusted the wedding party, dressed smartly, at 11 o'clock sharp.
Adelgund Wiester is the best example of the fact that behind every strong man there is a strong woman. Georg Wiester did not fail to thank the local council and the administration, especially his wife for her active support. "You accompanied my path with a lot of understanding and gave me a lot of support over the years," said the 70-year-old, who has been married since 1976. Son Markus and daughter-in-law Nicole were also present at the ceremony. Now Wiester's great attention and love belongs to his grandchildren with three granddaughters and one grandson.
"It's strange when you stand there again," admitted Wiester in his acceptance speech in front of the local council, but was pleased about "the special honor that is not a matter of course". In October 2007, he was also at the assembly meeting in front of around 550 community citizens in the school gymnasium. And so the circle was now closed.
