A helicopter has crashed in Otago, southeast New Zealand, killing its pilot.
The New Zealand Herald quoted a spokesman for the Transportation Accidents Inquiry Committee as saying today, "The helicopter (Squirrel-AS350) crashed after colliding with the La Merlaw Mountain Range over the Waipuri River about 10 kilometers north of the town of Lawrence in the region, killing the pilot." .
The New Zealand authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
